<3 Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana, prob my all time favorite games, next to earthbound.

That trio is infact the only reason I still keep a storage of 3 snes incase one or two breaks over time lol.

those games really make you realise how little content todays singleplayer games got though in comparrison :P

Not Backwards Compatible seems to be the direction this next gen of Always Online Required(xbox) is headed.

People will not convert en masse to next-gen for a while, and games will continue to be made for the 360/PS3 for the forseeable future. It happens this way every console generation. There is a massive installed user-base for the 360/PS3 right now, it's not going to suddenly disappear over night, particularly if they are using said console to play an MMO.

Hell, the PS2 JUST discontinued production this year. That should tell you something about the average lifespan of a console.

You're very wrong. I can't think of a game available on both PC and console that isn't more active on consoles strictly because it's cheaper and appeals to a much broader audience.

As for Defiance on Next-gen consoles, it'd be a huge mistake not to pursue it. I'd hate to have to keep my 360 around just for one game. Release it on the next gen and make it share servers with the previous incarnations. Xbox 360 shares with Nextbox, and PS3 shares with PS4. In addition, I read a statement saying they have been considering it anyway.

EDIT: It doesn't matter how long the current-gen will continue to last. It's about making it available for all.

Yes, it's there, and no, you probably haven't completed it all.

Even earlier for the PS4, and maybe later for the xbox 3.

But it does not matter, Defiance will still be alive with updates / content etc.
The problem is that with the "jump" to one generation to another, the game will be deserted on consoles.
Few people play two generations of console at the same time, and Defiance will be technically very bad.

It would be wise to release a next gen version of Defiance (at low price ?), and I think it is the wish of every consoles players here.
compatible with the old version ( + our characters, stuff etc. ) but maybe this is asking too much.

Otherwise Defiance will be probably dead on consoles, only the pc version will still be active.

What do you think of that ? Any project from Trion about this ?

PS: sorry for my broken English
Just because the next gen consoles are shipping in the next year doesn't mean that the market for the current gen will suddenly die. People will keep and still play the current generation for a couple of years. Sony has in the past used the older generation Console as a "Bargain" console. So I can see the PS3 sticking around a few more years. Who knows if Trion will see the upside to porting the game to the next gen consoles. IT may be too much effort for too little gain. It will probably depend on the show and how well the Defiance store does In game for the two consoles.

Adding on to my post, Defiance on the consoles WILL inevitably begin to die after the new consoles come out. To ensure a long-lasting community, it needs to be available on the next generation as well so that when people do decide to move on, they don't have to sacrifice.

It seems a bit early to start releasing a whole new generation of console since they are still doing so much with the current systems and at least I know for xbox they are working towards making it an everything device. They are still adding different media companies and adding other video platforms to the systems. I know the systems have been out for awhile, but I don't think they have become obsolete just yet.

And it may in the long-term, but certainly not any time soon. They *just* released the game for the current platforms, it's not like they can just churn out a completely new version the moment the new consoles hit the market. I'm still assuming they never will, but it wouldn't be that surprising if they did down the line.
