Huge download despite CD

Just bought a physical copy of the pc version. After installing, I changed the install drive to where I usually put my games. Well I don't even know if that is wrong but my game is downloading something and ETA is 14 hours or so.

I checked the cd name and it also says Defiance NA Mar 13.

yeah because it takes 2 weeks to get from master gold disc to the stores, so the data on the disc is 2 weeks old at launch. so it's always goign to be out of date for any game these days, especially an mmo.

phys copies are worthless nowadays. they cost more effectively than even paying full price on steam, (between transportation costs and such), and they're obsolete before the game even launches, with nothing of value in teh box for non SUPER MAGICAL $150 boxes.

Downloading the entire digital copy only took me 35 minutes. Your problem is your internet connection. Only solution is to wait it out.

I have heard the disc doesn't carry any game information, it just has the install client which gets all its data from the internet.

Yeap but it is weird since I have the ps3 version of the game too, and it took me around just less than 35 minutes.
But this one for the pc wants 13+ hours. I'll try reinstalling to default path first though.

Yeap, but its odd for them to not include any BASE gamedata except the launcher so I'd download less. But anyways I am in the game although my internet is capped because of that huge download.

This, if you're going as far as shipping physical media you should be putting the data on the disc.
Patches are tiny so far, mere seconds of downloading and major content such as art/sounds/models/effects are pretty much fixed or can be changed when needed (very unlikely).

Yeap patches are still tiny, downloading the whole game data isn't as easy as just downloading a patch. :O
Basically Trion screwed a lot of people up. I still love the game though. It's just a weird decision that they decided to do all these things like no resume option, no game data on physical disc, other bugs, etc.

You installed the game completely and then you manually moved the folder to another location? Is that what you're saying? While some games will let you get away with that, not all of them do. Are you sure it's not completely downloading the game into the location the game was originally installed into (because it can't find the files you moved)?
