1st MMO ever with no free trial?

I wouldnt be surprised to see a free weekend event pop up here and there for PC users, GW2 has started doing this, but it's been quite a while since GW2 launched.

Console users would need to prepare for quite a download in order to "demo" the game on live servers.

uhm, actually free trials don't hit till like the 6 month to 1 year mark. heck GW2 only does a free weekend when the planets align just right LOL

Anyway; no game gives free trials in first 2-3 weeks from release. Though a free trial for defiance within the 1st 3 months will be a bad sign that sales were not what trion wanted/ aimed for

Sorry I dont care what other games do. For me its a matter of funds. I have a very limited supply and 60 bucks buys gets me to and from work for a week and a half. If im going to spend money on something I need more then a brief description. There has to be some kind of in. A "viewer" or something to watch online pvp .... or a limited trial. Take a leap ... this tv and game release has never been done before like this .... so do something else new. Big props on the no subscription fees though.

There's this amazing invention called "YouTube." You should catch up to the rest of us in 2005 and find it.

just a heads up.... this thread afaik is not about the game going f2p... but just adding a trial version..... trial players dont have a right to complain about anything b2p players get as they are only playing in the trial!


seriously u guys need to read lol... its like saying the wow trial players complaining that the subscribers get to play the whole game.

if its for console your not getting a free trial, that only applies to PC only titles and games that are announced at the start of there creation.

There was a free trial for Everquest Online Adventures on PS2, so a console free trial isn't out of the question.

Not even close to the first. I do not think meridian 59 ever had a free trial.

I, like many others I know, are very interested in this MMO, but are currently not willing to drop $60 on the title without having had experienced at least some form of the game-play first.

Those of us that did not beta the game, but are still intrigued (myself included), I feel, would be more apt to purchase the game if accounts were able to be granted a 3 day trial (like what was available for RIFT), or some other corresponding trial, and allowed users to test out the game.

I've been following the progression since launch, hoping something like this will become available.
Please consider!

Wow, it appears that there are a lot of broke *** people in this forum! Get some money! There is nothing that you can do that is cheaper than $60 for a video game! Even if you only play the game for 10 hours!

I've purchased too many games that ended up flopping to trust a purchase without a trial anymore. Games are too expensive and end up being a waste of money if the servers go down or the game switches to a F2P model within the first month or two. APB, Gotham City Impostors, SWTOR.... I'd list Secret World, but I actually felt confident about that one in spite of its early switch to B2P because I got to try it first and had fully researched its potential to last before I spent money on it. So while Defiance has me interested, I'm not spending a dime on it until I've had a chance to try it first.
