Um yeah this is a flame. Sure you dressed it up with a bunch of extraneous text but its clearly an effort to say this without actually saying it. Only you did say it and I doubt most will buy the contrived effort to imply you didn't mean exactly this. You allready got called out by somebody other then me for bashing a guy who AGREES WITH YOU that xbox got shafted just because he happens to be a pc gamer. Drop the console vs. pc nonsense it helps nobody least of all 360 users.
A closed beta doesn't necessarily mean a player's save files will get wiped. Although it's normally the case. Some people want to call the early access of Epic's OverRun a beta, but really it's early access and all of your stats carry over.
The difference between a closed and open beta/ or alpha is this:
A closed Alpha or Beta means you must be invited by the developers or friend of the developers. (YOU MUST BE INVITED)
An open Alpha or Beta is when anyone can get a code, register, and play the beta event. All of the mission betas were open betas.
There was a "closed beta" test for those Trion invited to be a part of that much longer test of the game. Although still on going, the game is now gold and no longer in beta, the only thing "beta" about this Mission Beta 3 event is the fact that the servers need to be tested with a larger population to prevent an Error 37 event.
This is no longer a beta!
I know all of this because I am a developer.
I know how the alpha, beta, gold cycle works.
1. No it is not open. I can't just pick up my controller, go to the Xbox Marketplace and download the game. Therefore it is closed.
2. I mean, we are getting a beta. It's not like they have to make it 2 weeks long. It's whatever they are allowed to do or even what is necessary to test certain aspects of the game.
You may have it right but some ppl bashing the pc guys over some mythical beta that alot of us late joiners never even knew about is hardly fair or productive. Not to mention thoose betas were not pre order incentives anyway. my point is that ALL the betas are to short and we ALL need at least a week.
Dude, you're missing it again.
There were closed alpha testers, or in other words, just flat out alpha testers. Those people are invited because they are special in some way, or they are friends of the developers. (There can be open alpha events too, I point to Hawken.)
Trion's Alpha cycle most likely ended in December/January, and moved on into Beta by late January. There were still "alpha testers" but they are now called beta testers. But really the name doesn't matter because bottom line they are testers. They were a part of the closed test that was on going outside of the mission betas. The mission betas were open events to anyone! Do you understand now? Should I type it out
