Due to circumstances not entirely within our control, each platform has a slightly different start and end date. In the case of Xbox 360, our beta event happens on a Monday and a Tuesday (certainly non-ideal for folks who are working during those days.) We're hoping that everyone can queue up to download the beta in the morning when it goes live so we can all play together in the afternoon and evenings, but being realists, we realize this still doesn't work for everyone.

To help with that, we want to give PC beta codes to every Xbox 360 player who wants one. To make sure you get one of these codes, make sure you have made a Trion account at http://defiance.trionworlds.com and applied your Xbox 360 beta code to that account. A day or two before our PC beta goes live, we'll pull all those names and send you an email with instructions on how to get started in the PC beta - so even if you only can nab a couple hours on the Xbox 360 beta, you'll still get a taste of what Defiance is all about.
I'll take a million! oh and a side order of fries please!

You do realize that if there are any bugs found at release (and there will be), it will immediately go back to the fact that the 360's beta was only 37 hours on a Monday and Tuesday, right? Yes, the purpose of a beta is to find and fix bugs and stress test the servers. A 37 hour beta that occurs on a non-weekend will probably not accomplish these goals.

Also, the PS3 beta is not the full game, so to a lesser degree it is a demo of sorts. Unless you mean to tell me that Trion is only beta testing a portion of their game and expects the rest to be bug-free or smooth at launch.

    Really?

This is hilarious. Are you all seriously debating this still? ***** and moan all you want but I very much doubt Trion are going to change those dates. Those dates are SCHEDULED, non-negotiable and fit in the development critical path.

If you have purchased a pre-order on the premise of a beta test then you are first, a moron. The beta is an additional bonus, one which you are still getting! That fact the length/dates aren't to your liking is your problem, not Trions.

Grow a pair and sort yourselves out.

But perhaps the biggest problem of all is that all of that shouldn't even be an issue. The betas should be long enough to accomplish there obvious goals of testing and alowing players to try out the game. As I've stated before the fact they sell the preorders with beta keys as a perk confirms there intent to use the fact players want access as early as possible to increase sales. And you can't very well sell a product based on a premise like that and then presume to then tell them the beta is not for getting a feel for the game.
So for every game you want to buy you need to do several beta and/or play a demo...Good luck...And you don't need to pre-order it to do a beta.I register myself way before the pre-order start and received each times an invite...And i pre-order Defiance in march didn't pay anything yet and i can still cancel it...

It may take them awhile to figure out this will not go away until either they get fair treatment or the betas go off as planned. If the later happens rest assured they will lose XBOX sales over it. I think they allready have. Maybe in the future announce your betas when you know the date and not when you get good and ready to so situations like this can be avoided.
    you didn't even pre-order.

you have no say in anything. this doesn't affect you.

you are just whining for the sake of trolling.

Trion is providing conflicting details regarding the dates of the beta. They are anything but scheduled at this point and require further clarification from Trion.

I don't think anyone's going to get the full version of the game for the beta, because that's not usually what you do with a beta, otherwise it would be a trial. I,m sure there will be plenty of locked content that they don't want to spoil as of yet, and as to make the players focus on certain aspects of the game, like the areas mentioned and the things they want to show ( since the NDA will be lifted at the time of beta ).

Besides, there's no reason to try and give anyone beta testing the full game, because there's not enough time for anyone, and considering they've been patching repeatedly in the beta and alpha before.. they likely need people to generally stay around the same area worldy, and technically in order to make sure that those changes apply properly.

Its a lot easier to fix anything out of reach from typical players once they know just what got messed up in earlier phases so that they can find the appropriate sources of bug x, glitch y and such. They do have their own Q/A in order to make sure anything we don't have access to is working.

CTrain, you really need to look at this situation from a Big Business stance. Successful businesses don't get successful by publicly crucifying business partners. Do you honestly think Trion doesn't want this game to be as successful as possible? Trion has time and time again shown they are willing to bend over backwards for us IF its within their power. There is a reason for this fiasco and Trion is not going to reveal what that is, its basic business diplomacy. Like with cross platforming, you don't think Trion wants that? Apparently another party involved doesn't. Did Trion come out and throw that company under the bus? No, they would rather have future dealings with that company no matter how unpleasant they may be to work with.

You are assuming that Trion has control of the beta times. Since Microsoft charges you to use their network, they're likely restricting a beta to the time/date it best suits them. Also, it's a beta test. It's not a sample, or a demo, it's the opportunity to provide customer feedback, and to help them catch bugs. You're still getting the game, which is what you paid for in the first place.
I can't count the number of times the "you didn't pay for the beta" argument has been shot down but I'll try yet again.

They did in fact PAY for the beta. It was sold as part of the package. They didn't buy a game and then find out later it came with a beta key. They bought a game presumably with that knowledge which influenced the decision to preorder for many. Thats like saying you buy a pizza deal with 2 "free" topings and when you get the pizza it has no free toppings or different toppings then you ordered but its ok cause they were "free" right? It deceptive. Xboxers were promised a beta with the common sense understanding a REASONABLE effort would be made to include as many players as possible. You can't offer a product and then place extreme limitations on its use like this. It may be legal in this case but its totally unethical.

I don't assume Trion has control over there beta times. I know for a fact they do. Perhaps there are some limits in place but surely ms isn't going to scuttle the launch of a major game title on there platform by forcing them into having a beta during the week and only for 37 hours. Until Trion says otherwise this is there screwup and they will rightly take the blame for it. Still wondering whose going to get fired over it though. Whoever made this call cost them thousand of dollars allready.

Some valid points and the only counter I can offer is that there are plenty of ways to let it be known what is going on by "leaking" information you may not want to admit publicly for this reason. But if Trion is willing to cave so easily to ms over the Beta they might as well cancel the XBOX launch cause you can't run an mmo with another company at the wheel. Its really not too late to offer refunds, tell the costumers your sorry that ms screwed them, and be done with them. Not saying MS did any of this mind you.
