It sure is, which is why I'm sure if you were a customer, you might be able to get a better answer, but you're not a customer, since you've yet to make a purchase.

You've just said their remedy is worthless. It's PC beta access. If PC beta access is worthless, isn't xbox beta access worthless as well, by proxy?

You seem to be the only one who is really making an issue of this, so I really doubt this will be a major thing, but further, what do you propose as an acceptable remedy, if extending the xbox beta access period is entirely not possible due to Microsoft's suspected refusal to allow it?

Actually I bought RIFT. Nice try though. Before you like OMG its no defiance I'd point out its called a relationship for a reason.

As for beeing the only one raising this issue I am far from it. In fact Its likely the players who made an issue of it outnumber those who did not that own XBOX. But the trolling and personal attacks have driven them away from the thread. I'm sure some of them did cancel there preorders though.

They bought a beta as part of the preorder deal and now they can't log in for but maybe 2 hours. Yeah I'd be pissed too if I had ordered for the BOX

First off most people haven't bought anything. They've pre-ordered a copy with a $5 reservation fee, which guaranteed them a Beta Key. However at no point did that transaction state it would be an extensive, lengthy, rigid beta session. So are they getting what they paid for? Yes they are.

A Beta is use for play testing, server stress testing, and getting feedback from the players. A Beta is not a Demo to take for a test drive to confirm whether you will or won't buy the game. There have been two other PC Beta testing events, there has been an ongoing an extensive Alpha build test going for months. As for MMOs they are developing virtual worlds, this isn't a game with a neat ending you play for 16~28 play hours and then stick on the shelf. It's a ongoing always on piece of software on top of lots of hardware, you don't just get to change a line of code exactly to fix every issue as that fix changes the next thing down the line and so on.

So if you feel cheated for a limited amount of time to play in which you are using decide to go give them the rest of the money for your pre-order, based on a Beta product, then your complaint is not about Beta testing but about getting limited time to play a Beta for $5. If that is the complaint please take your unjustified and silly anger over not getting more play time on a Beta for $5 somewhere else.

If you want to play a Demo wait a while for the 7 day trial/limited world client and download that, it'll be free. So you can play it for the whole period of time they allow you then too, or will you gripe that 7 days ain't enough time for a free trial?

P.S. I'm an Xbox player, and I paid for the UE in full and I'm not unhappy about the Beta period.

Developers release either a closed beta or an open beta; closed beta versions are released to a restricted group of individuals for a user test by invitation, while open beta testers are from a larger group, or anyone interested. The testers report any bugs that they find, and sometimes suggest additional features they think should be available in the final version.
Open betas serve the dual purpose of demonstrating a product to potential consumers, and testing among an extremely wide user base likely to bring to light obscure errors that a much smaller testing team might not find.

For any of you still ineterested in harping on how this is not an open beta or not partially about an early DEMO. You can argue with webster I have shot it down enough.

You do realize that this is a closed beta because you require a code to access it, right? Even though there's "tens of thousands" of codes out there, they aren't all for the console betas. The majority are for the PC's. It's still a restricted number that get access to the console.

But seriously, arguing as to whether or not this is a closed beta is not the point. The point is that there is a discrepancy between who gets access to the beta for what length of time. It's weird, it's different and some folks don't like it - but that is what should be the focus here, not letting yourself get sidetracked with debates about closed/open betas. At the end of the day the definition isn't what matters... unless of course that's the only reason you're here?

Exactly, what's even funnier is they even mention the keys being given away... if they'd check, the places giving those keys even call it, and I quote: "Defiance Closed Beta Key Giveaway". I guess he knows more than the people giving him the key... must be awesome to be such secrets of the universe.

OK mods I know your trying to leave the thread intact but if were not going to clear total garbage like this maybe it really is best to just close the thing. I'm not planning on preordering for the box regardless but I think the point has been made abundantly clear and it is the following:

1: We feel SLIGHTED because our beta is both shorter and worse scheduled then the pc and esp ps3 betas with no satisfactory explanation given as to WHY this was done. If its MS then SAY SO.

2: we feel DECEIVED in that it was common understanding we would have ample time to log in to the beta WE PAYED FOR and most of us will not even get a couple hours.

3: we WANT fair treatment in beta scheduling and length. A weekend beta and 4 days besides like ps3 gets.

4: we WILL be canceling preorders wholesale if this is not remedied to our satisfaction cause we are PAYING costumers and we can take our money elsewhere if were not happy with the treatment we recieve. Currently we are treated as second class players.

I don't claim to speak for everyone who preordered an XBOX copy but I know I speak for many.

wrong. An open beta would be available to any and all. A closed beta requires an invite to be in said event.

It is avaliable to any and all and DOES NOT require an invitation. Sure some did get invites and some pcers got tricked into buying a preorder for a beta "invite" that is guranteed anyway but the fact is that I got in without beeing invited by just getting a key from Mmorpg.com

Any and all can infact join this beta. Name one person right now who cannot get a key and join the Defiance beta for reasons under Trions control. You can't because there isn't one.

Yep, but that's exactly their M/O. When they start losing ground on "Boxers", they jump to "what kind of beta it is", then usually jump to "Trion as a company and how they represent themselves", to "PC beta keys", then back to "Boxers". Think that's the typical rotation.
