What happens when you max the XP of your weapon?

I recently got the xp of one of my favorite maxed, with me finishing in the top 15 of any arkfall challenges almost everytime. A random told me he liked the weapon i was using but didnt want to max out its xp like it was a bad thing? When you max it, does it begin to deteriorate?

no, but it stops adding to your weapon skill and you have to swap it out for another, it is really a stupid system.

There's currently a bug where the skill will bug out and reset to 0 if you max it and gain anymore xp in the skill. This occurs with both vehicles and weapons.

In regards to the weapon xp, I'm not sure why he wouldn't want to max it out. At max level, the weapon will gain a bonus stat (there's a bug where the stat will change if you logout and back in though...).

you cant get general weapon XP on stats when you max a weapon out

press escape, click stats see assualy rifle, say u wearing an assualt rifle, you really like it. when your assualt rifle gets to max, you wont get any more xp on your general assualt rifle stat, and u need use a new one

    im bad at explaining.

a weapon with max xp, will not count towards xp for your general weapon xp

There's two different weapon XP. One is tied with the weapon itself, the other is tied to the category. The category XP is currently possibly bugged in that maxing it apparently causes it to reset. Because you don't get any more category XP when your weapon XP is maxed, you've nothing to worry about if you don't use new weapons... but of course, that also means you don't get the category bonuses.

So the proper solution would be to use different weapons to max out what ever categories i want, then revert back to my favorite to use while while reaping the full benefits of a maxed out category?

You have a weapon type XP, and a weapon XP. When a weapon's XP is maxed out you no longer gain XP for that weapon type. This encourages you to switch to another weapon of that type if you want to keep leveling it.

Personally I think they should do away with this system and if you are using an AR then you get AR experience PERIOD. We all have our favorite weapons and don't want to use a POS weapon just to level the weapon type.

The downside to this system also is that you have to keep lots of different weapons on you. What usually do is take a weapon I don't like and focus on leveling it quickly so I can sell it and clear the bag space.

Sadly, like many other things in the game, this wasn't apparent right away. It was only after using a LMG for a really, really long time and not leveling the core skill up that I figured out I needed to swap out weapons to keep progressing in the core skill.

What I started doing is keeping my top DPS set in one loadout (for Arkfalls) and having a set of the same weapons (swapping them out for new ones whenever they max out) in a different loadout to keep leveling the base skill up.

I can't be the only person that thinks this XP system makes absolutely no sense, can I?

This XP system sucks, you find a really neat weapon and you end up selling it because you have to swap so you can continue to gain experience.

However, the way weapon statistics works atm I would not worry to much about swapping, almost every weapon are the same in damage so if you for say have a legendary weapon that you have maxed you can swap it out for a green weapon in quality.. hence you could even swap it towards a gray item and you wont notice any difference.

This needs to change the way you gain experience and in my opinion every weapon aswell. Even if they are the same they need to have different damage and there needs to be a difference between item qualities, the only difference can't be it's firing mechanism and its synergy, base damage of every weapon needs to be RNG, not static.
