I beat him with a standard assault rifle and just lots of running and dodging and 3 second recharge shield. He wasn't hard, but he got up three times! THREE!! By the third I was ready to throw my pc out the window.

    I get this believe me.

But as said for Defiance and for Nim the fight isn't that difficult. It takes just a bit of time and patience.
Some key points here in the quoted bit. First, the percentage of WoW gamers--back then or now--who regularly progress(ed) through the raid content is something like less than 10% of the player pop, IIRC. In other words, lots and lots of MMO gamers choose for various reasons to not participate in end-game raid content.

This is a primary reason why you've seen a shift in trend, with the more recent MMOs not even having large raids at all, or at most 10-man raids. Most simply have the equivalent of 5-man dungeons now. If that. (and IMO Wildstar is nuts to be bringing back 40-mans, but that's another horse to beat elsewhere.)

And what's the main reason most players opt to NOT get into raid content at all? Because of what you said in your quote about jobs and not having the luxury any more.

Here's a clue bat for quite a few commenters on this thread: the AVID, ACTIVE gaming population as a whole is older than you think. The ones who think nothing of throwing LOTS of money at games, who think nothing of plunking down for DLCs and expensive founders packs and lifetime subscriptions and lots of cash shop items? They're old and they've been gaming since the 70s and 80s. Like me. I'm 51 and have been gaming extensively since the first "Pong" for the TV came out. I've had every console and various early computers, and I've been gaming on PCs since PCs first hit the streets. I have gaming friends who are in their 60s. I have retired friends who are active gamers. What the hell else is there to do with all that free time? Gaming is a relatively cheap hobby that gives a lot of entertainment time per dollar spent.

Game companies know this, but the "leets" who constantly ask for moar difficulty do know generally know this.

Again, a smart game developer can satisfy all audiences. All they have to do is put the harder content off to the side and NOT use it to gate progression. Leets should have access to FASTER progression, but casuals should not be blocked from FULL progression: they should just achieve it slower.

The Secret World made a fatal mistake in this regard. The entire purple gear progression was effectively blocked off to all casual gamers. Funcom suffered for this fatal design mistake. Arenanet is paying for the same mistake right now, although to a lesser degree. We'll see how Wildstar and Defiance do in this regard, but by and large you're seeing more and more developers "get it".

The sad fact is many of us are struggling with Nim but I don't think he should be made easier otherwise players like Rizaun would be left unchallenged.
Instead make it possible to take groups in to solo missions so that those who need help can get it.
Seems like a reasonable compromise to me.
Agreed. Using just a Grenade Launcher, I can manage to bring him down to to half way health in Phase 1 and halfway down in Phase 2 using a BMG.

In all honesty, even for players who are seasoned vets to MMOs, FPS and other genres are finding him difficult, handicaps aside. Up until now, I was waiting for some of my friends to catch up to that point to help me out with this, but I'm just finding out today that it is purely a solo-fight.

It's kind of strange the game doesn't have it already. :/
This. I can understand why the cut-scenes only include your character, but being an MMO, I would expect more reasons to group with other players, especially for boss fights like Nim.

After everyone told me how "hard" and "cheap" Nim was I was definitely nervous when starting my fight with him. At the time I was getting my infectors to 10 so my only weapons were a VOT Afflictor and a Flare gun. I never had to switch from my infector during the entire fight, I found him to be fairly easy and completely predictable. I only lost health and shields when he blew up the terra-spires, but never went down or died. They key to beating him (Like stated above) is to keep moving around constantly... that is all.
So to the topic of Nerfing him: No, this game is balanced when it comes to combat and is completely about the player's skill. If you lack the skill to complete the game then you should train yourself up so you eventually possess it.

Players with disabilities in hand motor control will find him essentially impossible. Older gamers (50+ and there are a LOT of them), will find him exceedingly difficult, both from a reaction time perspective and from a "years of typing at keyboards gives us rotor cuff and carpal tunnel problems, and the fight is literally too long and too dodge-tastic for your hands/wrists/shoulders to keep up".

The problem is simple: Nim is a -storyline- boss, not a "hard core mode dungeon boss". Also, Nim is a -solo- boss, not a team boss. Players with the above-listed disadvantages can often be carried by teammates in situations outside their skill or physical stamina zone, but there's no one to carry you in a long solo mission like this with a lot of buildup followed by three very difficult, dodge-tastic, twitch reflex stages that are both very long and full of 2-shot kills by the boss.

An encounter like Nim is suitable only for "hard mode" challenges that are purely optional. An encounter like Nim should not be part of a storyline progression that can block players.

Jackleg Joe isn't quite as hard as Nim, primarily because the encounter is much shorter and there is a lot more room for error and hiding to recover in the back corners. But Jackleg Joe should probably be fine-tuned a wee bit too.
I beat Nim with a bolt action sniper and a rhino shield... and I'm far from a "hardcore" gamer.

I feel the same. I'm having a bit of trouble with Jackleg because I'm not a hardcore shooter player (I love my RPG) and am kinda miffed it stops progression in the story (and the area itself) because it kinda takes me out of the immersive qualities. I'd love to see different levels implemented or just chuck the levels and let us take a group in the instances. I'm always bummed when I can't continue playing with my fiance when we're on a roll with the other missions.

    OK my 2 cents here.

    1. If you have beat Nim fine. Who cares? This isn't about you. All you guys are doing is trolling a suggestion that makes sense. Some of you are doing it to just brag like children. We don't care.

    2. What the OP said is absolutely true and nothing any of you say makes it any less true.

    3. To those people who are just coming in the thread and posting "STOP CRYING!!!" I had to laugh at that as you are obviously crying about people making logical suggestions.

just fyi, I finally finished Nim for those who care. I defeated Nim by using assault rifle and BMG. I am nearly broke but now I can work on side missions and rebuild scrip. My fingers hurt, my heart is pounding and my hands are shaking still but its done.
