How exactly is the skill bar for weapon type progression displayed?

So on the weapon type skill bar, not the xp bar for the indivisual weapon, there are 3 main indicators. A) the number next to the weapon icon, B) the white blocks that fill the overall bar, and C) the shaded area to the right of the last white block.

I can assume that the number is your current skill for that weapon category. I am only guessing that the white blocks are a visual representation of the number and always for easier calculations as to how far you are to maxing the category. Or, does it represent the total progression to the next skill number? I have no clue as to what the shaded areas mean. Any help is always welcomed.

I'm not ingame atm, but I assume you mean the number (EGO rating of the weapon) and the 4 mod slots (which can be unavailable, empty or full)?

not the mod slots. If you go into the screen that shows your skills/progression (it also shows your ammo count for all weapons and currency) the same place that has your vehicle skill bar.

the selection just to the left of your inventory icon at the top when your on the loadout screen.

yea its in your stats screen, and the progress for your current skill level is displayed under the icon for your currently equipped weapon in the bottom right

I understand that the number is your current skill level. What I am more curious about is what the white bar/blocks and the shaded area represent. Is the white bar the progress to the next skill point or the progress to to skill 20. 20 being the max you can currently have.

Ah.

I assumed the white blocks = 1 level and the shaded block = part of a block (i.e. a shaded block half the size of a white block would mean you have half the xp required for the next rank).

But to be honest I've never really checked.

Are you sure that the yellow bar below your weapon (bottom left) does not represent it?
I know it varies in length as I change weapons...

On the main UI (the one that you are usually in) the bar below your weapon in the bottom left, I thought was your progress until the next skill point for that weapon type. Which would go with what Jestunhi is saying about the shaded area representing the same thing.

White boxes are progress so far... grey box to the right is the progress to next level (what you are working on). That is also represented in more detail in the individual weapon window.
