Go to settings menu, video settings, and adjust the gamma so the three symbols are just barely visible. Once you exit the menu the game will look significantly better, trust me.

Yeah, one of the first steps I always take when I get a new game.
Weird thing is, the first time I loaded up Defiance, it was like WAAAY out of whack. Nothing on the slider made it barely visible.
