As has been stated by some, The episodic missions disappear once you have played them, keeping them around for those who buy the game late, received the game late because of Trion's choice of Distributor for outside the states, or simply because the show does not air at the same time in every country around the world, does not harm any thing, especially since the show is not in real time.
This, I do actually sympathize with. Actually, I'm kinda surprised they're running the North America servers and EU servers, etc on the same schedule. I would think, since the show isn't available until later in other countries, then the servers for those countries would work with that timeline.

So yeah, that sucks for you. Hopefully Trion will try to help you guys out in that regard.

The series season one is already done and waiting to get on DVD when the "air time" is done.
So to be cynical there should not be any episode missions at all if they where based on the show real time.
Just kidding but to me the excuse of the time line is kinda fabricated as a promo for a show that is not even fully global as the game is .

To me this experiment shows TV is something from the past , there is need for a global medium that can make this hybrid really work

can i haz me stuff back ?

While I get what your saying, I don't think the failure to provide a global solution to viewing the TV show should be taken as a reason as to why others can't have it.

I guess my point is I want to see good content first, and then see it in as many people's hands second. Not that I want to see content in everyone's hands first, and then see good content second.

But certainly, people living in regions where SyFy doesn't normally air, or has non-standard scheduling, should have taken their interest in this game with a grain of salt.

Seasonal content/live events very much have a place in MMOs. I see no difference here with the weekly removal of episodic content as the removal of seasonal event content.

And the content here is that we get a changing world.
Sure. As a player of LOTRO I'm familiar with their quarterly seasonal events and as much as I enjoy them I know that if I miss one I will be able to play it next year. If that turns out to be the case with Defiance then awesome, I can catch up on what I missed later on even if the content itself is rather trivial.

If not then.. well, I don't like it but I'm sure I will have fun with the other 99% of the game

there is a global medium, but syfy being the geniuses they are have decided to put a big fat region lock on it, and then not co-ordinate the air time of the show in other countries.

Though presumably that would be no or more less grating (continuity wise) than having to take back KTAM again
Yeah, a great game in my opinion would be one that integrates all your characters over the world (still have continuity issue with the thousands of other players, but I could live with personal continuity). Yeah, the missions would have to be structured very specifically in order to have missions that save and missions that would still make sense to be repeated.

I love this guy, perfect example of idiots on the Internet. Absolutely nothing in the definition of "episode" states repetition. Go ahead and just try to pass off whatever is in your head as truth. Lol.

    1. An event or a group of events occurring as part of a larger sequence; an incident or period considered in isolation.
    2. Each of the separate installments into which a serialized story or radio or television program is divided.

Sorry to say this but it's you own fault for not reading. It was clearly stated that you needed to finish the episode missions before the 15th as it ties into the show. Don't blame Trion for this.

This isn't to the trolls ("lol u mad tears lol cry moar"), or to the people saying, "Well, you were warned!" (not the point: the point is how we can do this better and make more people happy) but to the people seriously interested in discussing this.

...does anybody really have a problem with Trion *leaving them in*? Wouldn't that solve the issue? Why should we fight this, if there is a way for everyone to be happy?

You and I did them already on our mains. That's fine. We don't have to do them again. They are past, they are gone, our immersion is not hindered (our immersion with our health bars, ammo on the ground, absurd inventories, cars that pop out of nowhere and never run out of fuel, buddies that we can just help to their feet after they take a rocket to the face, real money purchases, instant clothes changes, mission icons all around, etcetera!).

Newcomers can play them. People can replay them on alts. In four years, when the show is toast (maybe, we'll see!), people can pick up the DVDs, enjoy them, and replay the game in sync. More content is available (and yes, missions and stories are important to people!).

Why not? What compelling argument is there against this? "Well, I want it to be in sync with the show" can still be done, with new content appearing to fit with it (and as many of have said, to REALLY do this, they'd need to be constantly changing the intro, which has the potential to be far, far more glaring, especially).

So your premise is that SyFy should spend a huge pile of money to produce a television series. They should then charge people to access their content in some countries, where SyFy is a premium cable channel. And then they should give the content away to everyone else in the world, because they may have purchased a game.

That totally makes sense in the same way that a games with a movie tie-in always include a free copy of the movie so the game player doesn't miss out on anything that may have happened in the movie. Giving away the content to anyone with an internet connection is also an excellent incentive to encourage networks in other countries to purchase the rights to show that new television series. I mean, those networks could certainly recoup their investment by charging people to access content that is already available for free on the internet or to advertise during a show that people have already seen. That's a very good marketing plan. You should take that to SyFy before they think of it.
