Not everybody has no job and can play for hours and hours.
Ummm.....did you read anything in the 90ish pages of posts before this? The episode missions are time sensitive based on the timeline of the TV series. The missions are gone. People missed a weapon. That is all. Not a big deal. Build a bridge.

So they didn't remove them from the create character info when the ship crashes, yet they're all about progression and it "making sense". Sounds like they and some people here like to pick and choose when it suits them to fit their agenda.

Face it, it's a stupid decision and allowing people to play it at their own pace is better.
Afterall, look at the measly content we got after the pilot, if this is the run of things there was no point removing them yet, it's a bunch of useless achivements which are fluff.

People made fun of those who finished everything worthy in a week and now people are getting stick for not being quick enough, such an elitist and illogical community.

WOW! I went to bed, and between then and now you guys came in with amazing post and points and reasonings for why this is a bad idea!

Some of your points I never even thought of! You guys make me proud to be a Defiance community member

It's great to know that I am not alone in wanting to not be rushed, timed, forced, to do content before it vanishes that is directly tied to the tv show.

Had this been a xmas event, and I missed out on a santa hat and meeting santa @ the Iron Demon Ranch, that would be one thing, but this is the tie-in to the first show, and if we say this was fine to remove this content, then what else will people be permanently missing when they had other duties? or "missing until they bring back reruns in the off season... >_>"

There is definitely a feeling of getting shafted as a new player.

What if the next mission explains a lot of why the Volge do what they do? Maybe goes in depth into their back story for an hour thrill ride, should people that couldn't commit every day to the game miss out on that great story and whatever rewards come along with it, and then have to go to YouTube to catch up as people who are talking about "immersion" suggest? We should get "immersed" watching someone else enjoy content we missed because it's taken down weekly?

It's bullshtako, and it's not going to fly.

New players are being sectioned off from content, old players who might have gone on a vacation get sectioned off from content, if they do the patcher news feed and the community site the way they have been doing without mentioning stuff like this, then people that play the game and don't check social media every day could be sectioned off from content accidentally as well.

In closing: I don't know what the people against everyone having equal access to tie-in content are thinking.

I have done what I can to make my position clear.

I feel that there is a form of content, beyond "go to (x,y), kill stuff," and even beyond scripted cutscenes, that can be achieved here (by taking out the content). It creates a living world of Defiance. It makes that "New Earth" an actual place is some strange form of thinking.

That permanence (as a function of time, not player agency) is key for this.

Once again, the show (in the world of Defiance) started on April 15th, 2047. I fully expect the next episode to start on the 22nd of 2047, and the third to start on the 29th. It solidifies this concept of the Defiance meta-IP as a living "thing."

You can't be cynical when viewing this idea, and it really takes a certain child-like naivete to enjoy it.

I am trying to rail against the age old idea of "completionist" that has taken such a tight hold of gamers. We have been conditioned to desire "100%" completion of "stuff," with a disregard to things that are not "stuff," even those these non-stuff things can be just as enjoyable.

    Pretty much that.

That would be great if it were 2047 and I was worried about 100% completion, however it's not 2047, and no amount of immersion is going to make it 2047, while it might be 2047 in Defiance media, that doesn't explain why missions are taken down 7 hours before the show airs.

You don't need to delete content to allow an idea like this to flourish that is just what you personally believe. Easily this could be fixed with allowing players to catch up within their own instance.

I don't really care about trophies, achievements, or any of that stuff for that matter, I enjoy playing the game, and the concept of it being tied to a tv show.

I shouldn't have to change my life to achieve this or I miss out on the whole selling point of the game, the tie-ins. If we are talking about child-like naivete and "fun"

You and others are trying to act like this is the matrix mmo, and you are plugged in or something. lol.

Talking about having to change your life to do 30 mins of content? Then I don't think you have time for anything but cell phone games.

It's great that you still have reading comprehension problems, so I will break it down for you.

I am talking about the future content of this game, I know it's hard to grasp that things will take place that haven't already.

    1. Please knock it off with the 7 hours thing. That was a legitimate mistake, but may be due to actual business limitations. Days should be the most precise unit of time we use, not hours.

    2. As I said, you can't be cynical while trying to understand my point. The "its April 15th 2047" is actually kind of meaningful to get the immersion.

    3. On trophies and such: there may not be an actual mission, but we do have the Armistice Festival. I get that you may be more into shooting and blowing stuff up, but part of the theme of Defiance is showing deference to the concept of that previous event. (as I said, leave your cynicism at the login screen)

    4. Its about coming into a world that is alive and possibly different than what you left it as when you last logged out. What does seeing every discreet change have to do with anything?
