Right now they are most likely asleep, so I doubt we'll get any official word until they are back at the office.

Couldn´t have said it better.
I think the rage about the 15th rather lies within the lack of any announcement up to this point, than it actually not being out exactly on the 15th.
As Jeronan pointed out, it´s the 16th, and we have no word whatsoever about the patch. Meaning, that it might not only take 1 or 2 days, but possibly even more.
If that is the case, the word "around" doesn´t fit anymore regarding the 15th.
Not all are trolls and want to see the world burn. I for myself am desperately looking forward to the patch, since I think, that the PC version is a bad joke currently. Just look at the amount of threads going on about the obnoxious UI and Chat.
And playing on a bad PC port for 2 weeks, on an officially released game, you cannot blame people for desperately waiting the patch to finally go live in order to have some big issues resolved.
I, like many others, just want to play the game properly.
I have played MMOs since Ultima Online and this is common practice and the forums is were lots of people flame to the top of their lungs. It usually not the best place to get info. The patch looks like it will be good and they are working very quickly to resolve issues. I am looking forward to them getting past this and getting the DLC out that will expand the world of Defiance.
"Around the 15th" doesn't mean exactly guaranteed to be at 12:01am my time on the 15th.
honestly, the "rage" about the patch not coming right this very second is MMO newbies not knowing any better.
things happen. Patches get delayed by a day or two. It's not the end of the world. and if you think it is, you need some new priorities.
Just saying, given the context meaning is inferred by the reader regardless of whether you intend it to be or not. Given there's a lot of QQ on the forum, along with the attempt to cover all bases in this post, I doubt that I'm the only one that read it as someone upset they don't have something they want when they want it. Intended context is rarely conveyed the way it is intended via text - hence why many flame wars and arguments over texts occur.
The thing is, it has been talked about. We've gotten constant updates since launch. We have been told a big patch is coming. We've been told it should be around the 15th. We've been given an approximate date, and people are upset because it wasn't accurate. Obviously, that means it's not quite ready yet. The end result is you likely have a lot of developers crunching (which sucks) to wrap up their work on the patch to get it ready ASAP.This thread was made so we could get one official explanation to stop all those threads that turn into flame wars. You know, official as someone that actually knows what is going on.
Ultimately, when the patch is ready, I think we'll all know about it via forum posts and the client actually updating. The problem here is a lot of people on the forums are expecting everything to be 100% to their expectations, and have a fit if something varies from them. Not saying you're one of them, but that's how it is.
Such is the problem with communication - and written communication is the worst to have breakdowns in context as the sender and receiver both have to be on the same page already for truly effective and efficient communication of an intended message to occur. You putting this context into my words is only you wanting it to be so. Nothing more.![]()
People's nature is to automatically judge the intent of a written message based on the expected tone (at which point I would again like to refer to the constant QQ in the forum). If you weren't intending for others to take the OP like that, I'm sure there were other ways the message could have been phrased.
In fact, if we were attempting to avoid the conflicts present in other posts, a good start would have probably been
"Hey guys, here are the details behind the patch. Nothing has been set in stone yet... but latest word was 'around the 15th' but..." instead of wording that seems intended to rile people up like: "under the impression (rightfully so)" and "What was promised and not delivered (if anything) and why." Just because you're trying to cover both bases doesn't mean your wording doesn't seem like incitement.
Well that really depends. If it's substantially changed from "around the 15th" to the 30th then yeah sure. But lets say they miss their mark for the 15th, and it takes then an extra 6-8 hours. Are we really so entitled that we need them to check in every time they need a few extra hours?Wouldn't it be nice to have an exact, official date for things to come? If it's next week, then it's next week.
If you were meeting someone out somewhere for a drink, and the meeting was at 10p, are you going to start blowing their phone up at 10:01? Most people would probably give them a little bit of time before attempting to even contact them, much less flooding them with communication. Personally, I'd probably wait until 10:30, and send a simple "hey, whats the word?"
You know... some people do say patience is a virtue. Surprising how little of it exists on the internet.
A noble, but naive goal. I believe our first day without this will be the day the forums are finally shut down alongside the serversBut this way there would be less repeating threads, less flame wars between lovers and haters, less confusion, less bad mood. Wouldn't that be an improvement?![]()
Watching people deal with their 1st MMO ever is so amusing sometimes.
they have done tons of patches since the game launched, If you are talking about the big patch, I'm pretty sure that got pushed back for some reason.
