I hope they step up some of the CGI a bit. The CGI during the car chase with Nolan and Amanda chasing her assistant looked like something out of the 70's. It was ridiculously cheesy and obvious (which is typical SyFy fare, I know...).

And when they had the great battle the CGI looked 80ish-90ish

The CGI didn't bother me because the character interaction kept me hooked. It reminded me of Firefly in a way.

I think the some characters where quite boring, the new mayor (bleghh she wasnt excited to play that role), the mine boss also wasn't quite interesting. Ofcourse Nolan and Irisa were good(in there role), but I found the Irisa to cheesy (being a badass and don't say that much). The characters didn't develop during the pilot. The CGI was not so great, I don't know what the budget was but come on, the cars/rollers... (On internet search found out that the budget for serie + game was $105.000.000)

It was really really predictable. I also don't get it why there is no history background in the Pilot and in the game (NONE!), the Pilot only said 33 years ago Voltans arrived -> War -> Friends -> a big plot -> Season One ends with a siege on Defiance and Nolan and Irisa save the day.

PLEASE, let me be wrong. Will watch Episode 2 and hopefully it will improve!

As far as the characters went, it's only the first episode, and even with ~2 hours to work with, you're not going to get a lot of depth and background into them. The actors haven't had the time to settle into the roles and really start to mold the character yet. There hasn't been enough time to work on the interactions with other characters, or with the other actors, so that they're believable.

This will all get better as time goes by and everyone gets used to one another. They need time to work on the chemistry. That said, Grant and Stephanie are already starting to gel as Nolan and Irisa. The rest will get there as long as SyFy keeps their collective heads out of the posteriors and doesn't cancel the show beforehand.

That was still far better than the cartoony image through the windshield of Nolan's vehicle showing the other car doing a power slide and running from them.

There were also a few places where the images on the green screened side windows were out of sync.

You are. That was 'episode one', not 'season one'.

I am glad the CGI is sub par. If they used CGI on Terra Novas level, they would run out of money just as they did...

I loved it. You people are too spoiled on CGI. I started on sci fi in the 80s, when everything was makeup, puppets, or simple robotics. I could see a little rough edges in the marching scenes, but there wasn't any major distraction. The close up cgi was beautiful. The acting was great. The mine boss I recognize from several films and tv series, and the mayor.. well she's been through quite a few shows in the past few years. Let's hope she doesn't bring this show bad luck. I expect to see a lot more memory flashbacks like the one of Nolan's past in episodes to come. That should bring us some more back story.
