Well when people (at least me anyway) think of MMO's they think of having deaths with consequences as with this feature it really makes you think about what you are going to do instead of like you said spawn rushing everything.

Sadly Defiance lacks the "death without consequences" feature that most MMO's have to adapt to a younger generation (Like myself) which sucks since I miss games where I had to sit back and think up a strategy before I did something and having to team up with random players just to get the job done.

My names Odinj in game aswell both to find my account and to add my characters name. I completely agree there needs to be more interaction with players, I mean I go in all crazy and fast but then I'm overcharge, so my playstyle is rather full on and crazy, but when I know I'm gonna die I play slightly cautious. There should be something to aim for in a clan, for example clan achievements so to speak that give you more than just the basic ego rating or ok weapon. There should be things like special clan mounts and outfits, or even small but constant loot or xp bonus's, or you mounts move like +2% faster or when destroyed regen % faster, but only when the clan has done certain achievements, will give people incentive to actually play together and strive to complete something for the rewards. This could all be instituted after the chat system has been made into more of a mmo style and could be put into place either in a patch or the dlc for the game, included in the season pass.

    5. PROFIT!!!! Welcome to the real world of modern gaming. Been there, done that with the EQ where you had a community down on through CoH/V which by 2005 became solo, now its just easier to put out a product and make the quickest buck possible and if it tanks....try to make as much money to cover the production cost and what ever else came after pads the wallet. Everyone seems to "But there is crap community, chat is broken, and no one chats over a mic!" yet you forget...how often in real life do you stop and chat with random people on the street....probably not often, cause its irritating when someone interrupts your life to stop you in your tracks....don't see why its no different in a video game or on the street that people prefer their little own life then socializing with complete strangers.

So instead of complaining that there is a lack of community, try to either make friends which most often fails or just bring close friends with you to the Next(tm) game out there...don't complain and "Back in my day, we used dial up both ways up hill...GET OFF MY LAWN YOU WHIPPER SNAPER!!!". Personally, I wish I can strangle everyone who with their headseat that leaves their mic on...so far its either Starscream, wierd origional Star Trek like sound effects, or some dumb mother f-er who is getting yelled at by their parent or child is screaming in the backround or their damn dog barking. FFS, PLEASE TURN OFF YOUR DAMN MIC!
You speaking of that reminds me of what the original gaming community used to be for probably some of the old gamers like me. The local arcades! All the arcade games in a building or mall and all the people in there. Now THAT was talking and socializing and playing a game! I really miss those days. You could really smack talk how good you are, put your quarter on the machine. Others would do that too but we all knew who was the next person in the line of quarters. No hacks or cheats.

As for chatting using text, some people just don't like to share more than typing to strangers they don't see.

How about a special clan color/decal for the runners/rollers?

While I don't think play styles need to change. I mean there is nothing wrong with rush in kill as much as you can or try to survive, there are a huge amount of ego perks to support this kind of play. I feel like maybe the "tank" build if you will should come with a weapon and damage hit, which would then make having more loadouts more like specs which would make people want to use them.

As for death consequences it would be nice if they made the run backs a little more intense or make it so it costs scrap, say 300? like the cost of a white nothing major just something to cut down on the lack of use of buddies rezing people. The bigger incentive people have to group or pay attention to other people in the area and let them help each other builds community sure it sucks running back when you solo quest but hey, ITS AN MMO!

I said this in another thread.

The problem with this game and death penalty, is that this game dosent teach you how to advoid death. In Super Mario whenever you died, for the most part, you still had fun, because you knew why you died, you knew what to do diffrently next time. It didnt really matter that you had to play the same part again, because you knew how to go about it diffrently the next time.

This game dose not do that. And thats why a death penalty dosent make sence. More often then not I find my self dying from some massave amount of dammage that came from nowhere and I had no warning. Such as PVE grnades that explode on impact and have no indicator. Or Hellspawn that bomb me from across the map. This could be fun if I could learn from my mistakes, and every death ment I was getting better. Ether through skill, or through some other means.

Over all I should be having fun while playing the game, even when I am dieing. Super Mario pulls this off. Super Meat Boy pulls this off. Im sure MMOs can too.
Telling someone how they can improve is 200% more helpful then telling someone that they need to improve.

This is a goood point I did not even think about that, this game could EASILY do a reason you died on your screen and then maybe even highlight or make an enemy have a bright blinking aura or something. This would be even better in pvp.

Games have not had a real death penalty since WoW as far as I am concerned, and if you put in a heavy one in defiance everyone is going to go to decoy for their ego power, since it has self rez perks that cut your self rez repop down drastically, then you will still have soloing, just with decoys all over the place.
