Well, Trion is in new territory here. They did need to release the game to coincide with the TV series start and they also need to provide weekly episode missions on time to sync up with the show as well. No way in hell will Syfy delay episodes of the show so that Trion can keep pace!
That said, they did know what they were signing up for and I'm sure there have to be some legal/financial concerns if they fail to live up to their obligations. They really needed to be better prepared for keeping pace once the show premiered, which means they should have been weeks ahead, not struggling to keep up with only one episode aired!
With the issues today with the patch, I'm really wondering if they may have pushed a knowingly broken patch just to be able to say they attempted to update the game today, while in reality they are just trying to buy themselves more time to actually complete the patch.
I don't think this bodes well for any of us.
The weird thing is that the game was extremely playable with few noticeable issues before the patch. Are there things that needed to be fixed? Of course! However, IMO, pushing the new episode content each week into a stable build of the game is much more important than the pace of additional fixes to the game. Major bugs/exploits/issues allowing hyper character progress need to be fixed asap, but there is a lot iin the patch notes that quite frankly should have taking a big back seat to the goal of pushing a stable client with the weekly episode missions intact and functional.
for the most part i like this game when it has worked. that being said there is no way this game was finished/ready to luanch. they have pursuit that can not even be finished because "HOT SHOT dam defense" does not even exist in the game yet. this is not an opinion this is a FACT.
Your Challenger won't drive? You're probably in the passenger seat.
Can't sell/delete an item? Check all of your loadouts, it's likely still equipped.
Auction house? Why? It'll just render bits purchased lock boxes pointless, and weapons are mostly equal anyway.
Gear/enemy progression? No thanks, it'll only render 90% of the content trivial when you reach the highest zone.
DAOC was playable the first day. Not that there weren't problems, but it was playable. WoW was a fairly terrible launch, but inside the first week you could get in and play for a few hours at least. This is day....14 for Defiance and the game is still down a lot. Like right now.
