Something about him reminded me of Mal and Jayne from firefly all mushed up into one person with Doctor Jones seasoning all over it to make it cool.
he's more like a deviant art version of malcolm reynolds but ok.

I can see all of that, I got definite Firefly feelings although Nolan isn't quite as witty as Capt. Tightpants, I guess Larissa has a bit of River in her.
