Patience and optimism aren't the same thing. Concerns and whining also aren't the same thing. Their customer base is largely upset with them, and they're handling it poorly. We shouldn't assume anything, positive or negative. We're reacting to actions they've taken, and can only, reasonably, expect more of the same until they show they're going to do different.
On that note, if I've read correctly, they decided to develop this game in a sad fashion. Instead of patching a lot of these issues during beta, they decided to keep pushing it back and release a larger patch later. There's a reason games develop at a certain pace, with small patches on regular intervals. It also seems that they know, and have done better.
