The MMO parts still need some work (particularly chat) but the game is totally worth it comparable to other single player titles in the genre (mass effect, fallout 3, borderlands are what I'd compare it to mostly in that regard).

pick it up for $40 or less and expect heavy turbulence.
it's not worth $60 for the SE, and certainly the DDE is way over priced, but the game is worth it on discount for what it is right this moment, notwithstanding lofty promises of bug fixes and free content.
I'd tell the person to wait because even after the first patch yesterday there's still a ton of broken crap in the game. I mean REALLY basic features that shouldn't be broken are in fact broken.
1. Computer will be fine.
2. No fees, they are slowly reinforcing the cash shop with patches however by making loot harder and harder to come by with each patch.
3. You will be bored in a week from now. If you play super heavily (all day), you'll be bored in 3 days from now and start repeating the same content over and over.
4. Servers are stable, but there's a ton of broken crap in the game. My rollers (that's vehicle skill) has rolled over and reset twice now. Co-Ops are still horribly broken half the time. PvP is an unbalanced mess. The list goes on. They've also been ninja/stealth nerfing a whole bivvy of things without telling anyone or putting it in patch notes.
If you don't care and you just want something to do, fine. There are plenty other alternatives out there how to better spend $60 however if you're on a budget.

Blur Game Play
First of all, I give you my opinion as i'm EGO 2300 (I played a lot over the last weeks).
1. How does this game handle on PC. Ive got quite a good rig and can run most single player games on ultra (skyrim, ME3, AC3 etc) will I manage well?
Yes, and tbh, graphics are really not that bad. I don't have any trouble to run this game on high quality settings
- Core I5 3.6
- Nvidia 660 TI
2. Monthly fees? cant see any mention of them but ive learned in the past that doesn't always mean there isn't any.
There's no monthly fee.
There will be DLC with a season pass you can already buy for 30€ (which is a lot cheaper compared to other games monthly fee).
3. Replay value? Does the game have enough content to hold me or will I be bored a week from now?
That really depends on what you like to do.
To be honest, there's not a lot of things to do after finishing the game but I still find enjoyable to replay some missions, do PvP, Arkfalls.
There's a lot of pursuits (achievements) to complete that give you some EGO (I completed 72 atm).
There are contracts you make each day/week.
Seriously, if you think there will be nothing to do finishing the main quests, you're wrong.
4. Game play issues? are the servers steady/reliable?
Servers are ok. There are some issues but they don't break the gameplay.
If you like : shooter, rpg, sci-fi, co-op and pvp.
Buy this game now !
I took some days off and that gave me a lot of time to play (I played 10 hours per day I think).
Now I'm back to work and still can't wait to be back home and take my gun to do my contracts, pvp and arkfalls again.
Some people might say "I'm a fanboy" ... they are probably right ... because the game is exactly what I wanted to play these past years.
Angry Joe has a review that is SPOT on in my opinion. http://angryjoeshow.com/2013/04/defiance-angry-review/
You should definitely go into this with some trepidation.
One of the best games released in awhile with actual open world gameplay until they took keys out of the emergencies and want to force you into instancing. Go play DFUW!
I would tell them to wait until it becomes a game worth paying $60 for.

Buy it once it hits the "bargain bin" unless you like repetitive shootouts with mobs that seem to endlessly spawn from clown-cars.
If you have the money to spend and don't care GET IT!!!!
BUT!!! and a big BUT is it!!!
If you have an xbox360 buy it for xbox, There is no real difference from gameplay between xbox/pc versions. The UI is exactly the same and you can use your xbox controller for the pc version (i use mine) and its so nice!!!! but the PC version is the xbox UI packed into a box and says PC...
Also this is just my opinion, The game lacks content there are 5k ego levels im 790 at the moment and I just sit and stare at the screen hoping something changes as i do the storyline for the 3rd time. The game does not feel like an MMO at all the only communicatuion u have available is teamspeak and that even proves my point about it being xbox atleast with xbox u have voice chat and a friends list lol.
Guilds well there is no point since u cant chat w/them and there has been times where i was in a guild and in a guild, lost connection and ended up not even on same server as them so it was pointless. (they may have fixed that but i left my guild soon after bcuz there is no real point IMHO)
Its a love hate relationship w/me id say buy it if you want its a fun game for a short period of time but the only real way is to decide for yourself. Hope ya do and hope you don't feel ripped off, the game will get better ya just will have to have alot of patience
