It sort of makes sense for explosive skills to not affect them: otherwise there's almost no reason to use proper explosive weapons. It's not like faux explosive weapons don't have their uses anyway.

Sorry, you are right, that's just a 51.4% nerf. Changes everything, instead of being 2/3 less powerful, it's only half poweful as it was.

Joke aside, I don't use pistol, and never used the flare, however, 50% is really huge for a nerf.

And BTW, almost everything with very rare mods own. Do every weapons need to be nerfed because of those rare mods ?

Let me understand that, with the rare mod, you have a magnum. Without, you have a useless weapon, that's it ?

Technically, it's not as large of a nerf, because that raw base value neglects two important aspects of the flaregun:
    1) The DoT is still there, and easily does significant damage.
    2) The crit was buffed from 2.5x to 3x. I dunno why that's buffed, but it is, so there's slight compensation.

Thing is it isnt even 50%. Thats just the damage of the initial shot. It does quite a bit more damage from the DoT afterwards as well. Also, it doesnt even need to be a rare mod to own. You can buy from any of the mod vendors a +4 mag mod for pistols and attach it to the flare gun and it still owns. Maybe not so much after the patch, but that was kind of the point of the nerf.

I just tested it out on my end vs some raiders. A green Northstar with just a +4 mag bonus on it. No other bonuses or mods, and no perks that would increase my damage while standing up and hitting these guys the way I am. A crit shot hits for about 1800 per shot, which winds up instantly killing them without any DoT effect. On those I wasnt critting it is hitting for 581 and ticks of 105 and lasting 16 ticks.

So anyway, thats 2261 damage per shot non-crit, AoE damage, and 5 shots of it before having to reload. Consider adding even just a basic +4 mag onto that as well giving me 9 shots.

Now if I crit, the initial shot does 1795 damage. Same damage for ticks. 3475 to the target I crit and 2261 to everything around it.

Now if I test this out stealthed up with +30% damage perk I do 2543 initial damage for a crit shot. 4223 total after DoT.

Again, this is with a completely un-moded version that just has a +4 mag bonus on it already.

The gun also has a base 3.1x crit multiplier. Meaning any additional crit added to it through mods, bonuses, perks, adds more crit multiplier per bonus than most other weapons, except for 1 or 2 snipers and a Wolfhound pistol. They also dont require a headshot to crit, just a front body shot on humanoids.

Now think of what it is still capable of if I were to actually mod it with a bigger mag, some more crit, etc and actually make use of my crit perks which I left off for testing. I ran that setup in the past. Easily critting something like 7-10k+ per shot (depending on exact mods and triggering of full crit effects), just for initial damage, then adding the DoT on top of it. It was one of the only weapons that I think actually did need a nerf. It is still very capable of unleashing tons of damage even with a 50% or so decrease to the initial shot.

Don't feel bad guy, they nerfed the sawed off as well, I mean the gun that fires once then takes like 5 seconds to reload. Now unless you hit the shot just right you are doing fractions of damage on common mobs... Giving them ample time to take you down.

Such a shame because the sawed off was a one trick pony in PVE, now it's pretty much worthless, yet people are still one shotting in PVP with it.... lol

Not a very good gun now, it's kinda meh.

But I guess I have to fluke out and hope I get rare one with +4 mag, crit mult, assassin and reevaluate this opinion. Like that is going to happen...NOT!

I do see they fix lvl 3 mods so you could have a 17 shot flare gun....mhmm.

Also it seems dot got nerfed, highest tick I see now is 54 and I am lvl 20 in pistols.

The Avenger was never nerfed! Now the Krysae... That was beaten by the nerf bat so many times I actually felt bad for the poor thing.

You consider a +4 mag mod and +crit mod, both of which can be bought at any mod vendor in the game, rare?
