First the game(DCUO) WASNT dead for a long time afer launch, it KEPT growing in customers both on Pc and PS3, so much in fact they had to add 2 more of each type of server. What "killed" the population was the PSN hack,( months after DCUO's launch) and since the game is based on Sony servers no one could play it for like a month and a half. After that long of a time of not playing the game, people had the mentality of "out of sight, out of mind" and moved on to other games, and THEN the poplulation suffered for a while. Thus the need for a servers merge, been going strong ever since.
And as far as the grind goes?? Thats what a MMO is.. the grind for end game gear, EVERY mmo is based on this. Always has been, always will be.
