I don't think its an option for them to openly consider getting the player to play the role. I mean.. we are playing a pretty specific set of characters with certain specific characteristics ( amongst which being an adult is one, being fit as well. ) Takes a lot of work to be able to make it as an actor, and it would be kind of stupid for them to just say 'eh we'll get the winner to play their char ' when they have -no- idea what they'll end up with.

Yeah no one wants to see my ugly butt on TV.. lol. *suppose they could always put a big hooded cloak on me... and make me mute since I hate my voice too* lol. but that kinda defeats the purpose. lol.

Or you know, you find out that your big contest winner is a 12 years old hyperactive kid with the kind of ADD that makes it to where you can't even direct them properly, especially since they don't want to listen to a thing you say.. And then you have to explain to him and his parents why you can't work with him and he's suddenly fired even if he 'won the contest'.

Subset of solipsism... You know, our brains ingest information and sift trough it finding those things that enhance our ability to survive, and those things that don't pertain to any aspect of survival. Those things that ride the line cause a kind of confusion that evokes humor.
