A few clan-mates of mine heard about internal rumors about a Secret Pow Level. Kind of a joke and homage to the famous Secret Cow Level from Diablo 2. Honestly we thought it was a b.s., mostly because our friend is kind of a troll, but being the adventure seekers that we are we decided to throw caution to the wind and try it out.
I do warn you however that acquiring the items necessary to access the Secret Pow Level is very time consuming and can be expensive. We were eagerly awaiting patch day today so we could access the "story replay" feature which was crucial to accessing the Secret Pow Level. We were also waiting for Hot Shot: Dam Defense to return to the game so we could get 100% completion for Marin.
It is a very fun and rewarding experience for us and if you and your mates are willing to put the time forward to gather the items it will be worth it.
Whether or not you want to partake in this endeavor is up to you, but we wanted to provide you with a step-by-step guide.
Without further adieu here it is:
- A full party with at least EGO level 2000.
- Each member must have completed the main story.
- A purple weapon of any 4-mod synergy fully slotted with mods of the same type (e.g. assassin, brutal, etc). This weapon must also have 100% experience. This weapon will be destroyed in the process of teleporting to the Secret Pow Level, so keep this in mind. We don't think the level or the type matters, but we used a level 1300 assault rifle with brutal. This is probably the most expensive step as it requires a lot of keys and or reputation to get the right mods. The person using this weapon also needs level 20 in the respective skill. We lucked out and had an assault rifle.
- One person needs to have Decoy. We don't know if skill level matters, but it was maxxed out for ours.
- Every party member needs to have 100% pursuit completion for every zone.
- The party member with Decoy needs to be wearing the Deputy Lawkeeper outfit and hat. This person will be teleporting their party to the Secret Pow Level. Every other party member must be wearing a gas mask (there are several varieties but any works. All of our party member wore the white one called "Waster"). Outfit doesn't matter for the rest of the party.
- Using the replay story feature go to the part where you travel to Iron Demon Ranch for the first time and head to the basement. After the cutscene go to the back of the basement where the data recorder is.
- The person with Decoy will now summon their Decoy and it should run into the end of the small hallway and then stop.
- Take out your 100% purple 4-mod weapon and unload a full clip/magazine into the Decoy. It is important you do this before it expires. This step may be difficult with slow firing weapons with very large magazines. Apparently if you don't do it correctly you trigger a hidden 24-hour timer which prevents you from trying again. We can't confirm this because we got it on the first try but be aware.
If you do step 9 correctly the Decoy should disappear (effect looks similar to that of killing an enemy with a siphon weapon) and then a few seconds later your party will be teleported to the Secret Pow Level. When you zone in there is a small cut scene of a Pow running into what looks like a Votan machine before exploding in a giant wave of energy and then it is cloned repeatedly with each one getting larger and larger. I won't ruin the rest but the final Pow that is cloned is quite big and may or may not remind you of something from Diablo 2.
Once the cut scene is over the purple 4-mod weapon will be gone and your party is free to explore the lab and kill the now aggressive Pow. We won't spoil the rest but the Pow aren't your ordinary Pow and can offer quite a challenge for your party. They seem to drop regular loot. A mixture of white grenades and shields mostly.
Once you get to the last room and kill the final Pow your team will immediately be teleported back to Iron Demon Ranch and your adventure will be over. We're in the process of getting the resources together to try and build another 4-mod weapon so we can try it again. We plan to let someone else do the Decoy portion next time as our source says that "it is a one time thing, so don't expect to farm it". So hopefully if another person leads and does the Decoy we can do it again. Or maybe our entire team is locked out? Not sure yet. Also we got not special loot from the entire place. We think the entire place is just there for fun/easter egg and not for loot farming like the Secret Cow Level was used for in Diablo 2.
I hope that made sense everyone! I immediately wrote this the moment our euphoria from finishing the Secret Pow Level wore off. Hopefully the information is easy to understand.
Sorry it was long! But there's a lot of information. Also I wish I could have posted this earlier so more people could see it, but we weren't able to do our Pow Level run until midnight because we were waiting on our friend to get home and log in.
Edit: Screenshots should come soon once we do our second attempt. I tried relying on the Steam overlay's screenshot feature but it has been uncooperative with saving. We plan to use Fraps or something similar to capture our second attempt to provide visuals for the guide. We didn't think Steam would fail us. Anyway, if anyone is able to knock this out before us and post images it would be great. I'm sure there are a lot of high level players who have the resources to get the Pow level summoning.
