They haven't announced any content included with the season pass. I wouldn't mind having additional content only people who purchased the season pass get access too. If I can play the content without the season pass, what incentive do I have to spend 30 dollars on it. Like expansions for an MMO, only the people with the expansion gets access to those zones, those quest, those missions, etc etc etc.
I don't think 30 dollars is worth some guns, a new race, a new vehicle and new missions. Now you open up that land north of where we currently have opened and add an extension to the main quest, new side missions, and new cars up there, I'm all for it.
I like the game, I've already spent an additional 10 dollars buying inventory slots. I have zero issues paying for the season pass if I'm getting content that can't be accessed otherwise, or content that is worth the purchase. The actual description of what you are paying for is very barren at the moment. A new alien race, new weapon (no mention of current weapon types or a new weapon type), new vehicle (no mention of a reskinned vehicle or a totally new type being added like the hauler), new missions (no mention if these missions will be exclusive to season pass holders or open for everyone, the consensus seems up in the air and mixed. I'd wager only for pass holders but no confirmation yet)
So I think if they want to sell passes a better way to get that done is actually giving information on what content we are purchasing. As it stands right now, they could give you one gun, one reskinned car, one mission everyone has access to and call it a day on season pass holders.
As a consumer you speak with your mouth, I told Trion I feel the game they created is worth my 60 dollars, they want to sell me an additional 30 dollars worth of content, they need to do the very basic and provide me with information on what I'm buying. This sight unseen season pass stuff has proven to outlast it's usefulness.
I can't recall the last time I purchased a season pass and felt it was a good purchase. It's typically rushed out content made to meet the required X amount of content. This is why a lot of companies use them now. They can release one stellar piece of content, then phone the rest in. Most people buy the pass based on that first piece of content.
There is a different way of looking at this, though. With a subscription-based game, you can cancel at any time, which means the developer has an interest in keeping you around. They want to keep getting your money and have to keep earning it every month. For example, when WoW went into a direction I didn't really care for, I let my subscription lapse.
In Defiance, if you hand them $60 for the base game, $30 for the SP, maybe another $30 for the cash store, all in the first month, they get all your money upfront. In some ways, you've become "dry", from a "cash cow" perspective. I'm not saying that there is anything really wrong with getting the Season Pass, either. Just pointing out an alternate view.
As I wrote before, I gave them money for a deluxe version and spent some money in the cash store. That IS support, because it's twice as much as I usually spend on games. I could have gotten the standard edition and not spent anything on bits. I'm entirely willing to give them more money down the road, but they will have to "earn" it by polishing the game and improving issues that currently don't make me an entirely satisfied customer. It's their turn. I first trusted them by giving them money without having seen or played the game, and now they will have to trust me that there is more cash that I'm willing to give to them.
Defiance is in a better place than F2P games that also have server and support costs, and they don't get $60+ upfront from every player.
This is absolutely spot on. It seems the trollers, whingers and cry babies don't understand basic economics. I haven't, as yet, bought a season pass because I'd like to see where I am with the game in a month. If, like you say about CoD above, am bored, I won't buy the season pass. However, at the moment, my addiction and enjoyment for this game just grows..... exponentially! I've got so much work to do (for my "real" job) but I'm sat here on the defiance forum and spent most of the morning talking to my boss about the show and game!
But, as you say, CoD is the biggest waste of money, in my opinion. I buy it every time, and after a month I sit there and say to myself; "Never again." A tiny, scripted and easy campaign coupled with a PvP experience which leaves me RAGING!
i just bought the Season Pass from GMG for 28$ ... -5$ from a voucher i had.
IMHO the game is worth supporting.
The gameplay is innovative considering its "massive co-op" and the performance is impressive (on PC from AUS) for such a fast game. story is ok'ish and there is lots of potential for more content/ activities/ social etc. I personally also like the flat power curve, but i understand thats not everyone's taste.
and yes, i do see the issues ... crappy pc ui, social interaction =0 atm, bugs, bugs .... all which can be fixed .... i hope.
and the show. well average at best, imho. i was very keen to watch it - and thx to some forum posters I did. had higher expectations. Babylon5 was better .... but memory might trick me after 15yrs. However, more of the backstory was explained in-game online than in the show ... like why the votans came and what happened to Earth. Anyway, I take it for what it is and will keep watching.
you want pay to win 12sky2 go try that
