Agree with everything before the edit. The makeup crew was fantastic, the CGI, not so much, the vehicles didn't quite hold up towards the end, and anything close up of the Volge definitely didn't work too well either IMO. Hopefully they'll use less complete CGI scenes in the future - it'll drop budget costs as well.
Your Challenger won't drive? You're probably in the passenger seat.
Can't sell/delete an item? Check all of your loadouts, it's likely still equipped.
Auction house? Why? It'll just render bits purchased lock boxes pointless, and weapons are mostly equal anyway.
Gear/enemy progression? No thanks, it'll only render 90% of the content trivial when you reach the highest zone.

I wonder if the terrorist attack in Boston earlier in the day that Defiance aired may have had an impact on viewership. I know all the local stations were running loops all evening of the footage and some people who might have watched Defiance may have been trying to find out more information about the bombings...

I'm actually hoping the show will bomb and be done within one season.
Then they can stop relying on the show to further develop the game.

But if I may point out something at a slight tangent:

AMC had Mad Men and Breaking Bad generating significant buzz for the channel before they released The Walking Dead. People are more likely to spend the time watching a show if it comes from a good pedigree (another Joss Whedon show, anything by HBO, etc.). Syfy's "Mad Men" or "Breaking Bad" was Battlestar Galactica, a show that, despite the nostalgia effect of a remake only had a 3.1m Nielson rating for its premiere. An original IP has a distinct disadvantage compared to that, and it still managed what, 2.7? In large part that probably relates to the success of Battlestar Galactica, but now that those people have watched the premiere they will make up their minds to watch more, and to tell other people about it, based on the merits of the show itself.

We'll see how the Nielson average works out for this season, and if it bumps up to double or more on the next. If it does, we're likely in for five or six seasons. If it doesn't, well, Battlestar had a degrading Nielson and it still managed four seasons.
    Great point you have there

Let's put this in perspective, shall we?

Best SyFy premiere for target audience since Eureka:

Eureka ran for 5 seasons, enough to run indefinitely in syndication, and spawned 3 novels and a couple of one-off comic books.

Best SySy premiere for total audience numbers since Warehouse 13:

Warehouse 13 is about to start its 4th season and has already spun off a 5-issue comic and a novel.

I'd say at this point, the smart money is not on cancellation.

The views are low Not the shows fault

Blame websites Like Amazon the show was to air at 9 pm - Amazon made a huge **** up. In stead of releasing a 15 min preview, they allowed everyone to watch the 2 hour premiere hours before it had aired on TV. I found it on pot luck mega share and 3 other web sites. I had watched it at 10 am in the morning, syfi should sue Amazon for the low ratting.

Having a lot of viewers and yet being expensive if hardly a death bell. It killed Eureka, sure, but it did that after like six seasons...
