    It's a pilot.

It is unrefined. Do you guys even remember how campy (yet still OK) the BSG pilot was?

Everything is quickly hashed as a rough to see if over all audiences will enjoy.

Usually after pilot episodes (The board has atleast signed off on it) the quality gets better.

They do the pilot on a finite budget. The point of "startup" levels.

So judging effects on a pilot is silly. The fact it looked better than the Xena days is fine by me.
This is why no good sci fi is on, we nerds get all focused on effects and not the story for some weird whiney reason. Before defiance we had what? Revolution? Some other junky fallen skies soap drama junk done in the lots of detroit (I swear)?

At the least now we have something that is fairly unique and has a set/setting unlike what we see these days or ever before.

But cake eating cheeto faces will of course find fault with absolutely everything.

As for the driving. You don't drive off road much do you? You gotta move your hands around alot with a dune jumper, that's basically all these "cars" are. If you aren't reacting or proacting you are rolling your buggy.

I like how i see this said so much, yet i doubt any of these people have driven an old piece of junk truck before, let alone off road, Ive had 2 different trucks with that much play in the steering wheel, 1 was just old the other the wheel ball barrings were going out. So judging by how these rollers look, i could see them not having the best of steering!

this brings up an interesting thought. With the game tie in being mentioned, although it is only by ign, ould syfy/trion be able to work some product placement deals for advertisement within the game? would that increase it's liklihood of success as a tv series as people pay to place products in a game that also links with a cable tv show? Just something that came to mind when i read this comment

Yeah but it costs quite a bit to make an episode. Somewhere in the 2-4 million range, which also makes it the most expensive show they make.

The game and the tv show combined cost them 100 mil. The game cost what? 60? 70 mil tops?

Not a good start if you ask me. Cost to much money to make
Good thing they aren't asking you. It was some of SyFy's best numbers, and they budgeted the show based on SyFy numbers.

And of the cost listed, the video game was included in that.

Quite honestly..... This is the FIRST series show I have EVER watched on syfy. My whole family watched it including my 12 year old daughter and we all enjoyed it. It was a nice way to combine family and gaming. 2.7 million is not a bad number.

Defiance had an outstanding premiere for SyFy. It actually beat the premiere numbers for Game of Thrones, and we all know how well that is doing now. Have faith.
