    Something is missing...

Trying to find out if others feel my pain with this game.

I've been thinking lately about these lockboxes and the poor drop rates associated with them. With that said, I don't understand why the drop rates are not significantly higher. Every lockbox that I've purchased, has been with in game resources, and I'm yet to get anything interesting, not to mention, not even 1 orange. I've bought tons of boxes btw. Mainly tier 3.

    So here's my point:

With this game being free to pay, with no monthly sub fee, one could think that Trion wants to get some money from people buying bits. I could care less how my character looks tbh. I use one of the outfits that I got for free by doing a quest anyway. What I do care about, is the gear that I use. The weapon. The shield. The grenades. I'm willing to spend my money on this game, that's not a problem, but why would I? I'm not going to spend $50 on 5200 bits to get a weapon that I don't use. I mainly use AR's and Shotguns, and from what I've read, people are getting orange Infectors and other weapons (when they actually manage to get an orange item) that no one really uses. I don't know, maybe I am completely missing the point of the micro transaction system.

I understand that this is a skill based shooter, therefore you can't implement weapons that are ridiculously strong. But if that's the case, and most weapons are the same for the most part, minus a few mods and the way the weapon feels, why not up the drop rates on the lockboxes? If I knew that there is a good chance that I could get a legendary item from a lockbox, the chances of me buying bits would be way higher. At least they could hold some sort of carrot out in front of me. At least getting 1 legendary that I could use would make me feel like I'm progressing in some way in this game. At this point, I've done every available mission and side quest, and the only thing I feel like doing when I log in is do the dailies. I don't care for pvp or the challenges, and the instanced dungeons are not that fun and definitely not rewarding. Nothing really keeps me logged in. Even when they come out with DLC, I know that I'm gonna get through that fairly fast as well. Maybe this just isn't the game for me, and I'm having a hard time seeing it.

I'm not bashing Trion, I love the way this game plays. They have made a really cool feeling game, I just feel like it falls short somewhere. It's missing something, and I don't think that feeling will go away even after the DLC releases.

TLDR: I don't feel that spending money on this game will make any difference. Also this game is great but missing something.

I've only used the store for outfits myself. I can't see myself wasting real cash on lockboxes, you have no idea what you're going to get (I'd rather just throw my money away on the state lottery at that point).

I don't think that means Trion should put specific weapons in the store for cash either, though. I don't like the 'pay to win' mentality. I'm content with the cosmetic stuff - though we need more of that.

I suspect they'll make the bulk of their money (if they do a good job) with DLC and expansions. The game isn't free to play, there was a purchase price (given another thread I just read, a purchase price too high for some) to get in and not all content going forward will be freebies.

I also love the game, but feel like there's something missing to keep me playing (at least regularly) for months to come.

DLC content is nice, but missions (unless they suddenly become drastically more interesting) won't quite do it for me.

I know what I want - a social 'hook.' A reason to hook specifically with a group of people for mutual benefit. Some kind of in game group of acquaintances or friends = I keep playing and paying.

They did manage to fit clan chat in the patch, this huge one I had joined a while ago that was nothing but crickets was quite lively last night - people were forming co-op groups and such. I think the communication still needs to be improved for the PC players (or maybe everyone, dunno how it is on consoles) but they're working on it.

Yes. Thank you. That's what it's missing. Some sort of event, other than Random Arkfalls. It's like it needs something that takes a coordinated group of people to complete, and then offer some kind of reward.

Yeah, I meant no sub fees when I said F2P. I just figured that they could make more if they were to up the drop rates on the lockboxes. I don't think that would cause problems because it's not that hard to get lockboxes without paying money. But I hear ya, pay to win would suck.

Just speaking my mind. So to answer your question: Yes, I guess? Just trying to create convo with people who may or may not have the same views. Thought that was obvious.

I wouldn't be opposed to a 'tier 5' lockbox only via bits that has an even higher chance of oranges or something. Then again most people are saying now you shouldn't even buy tier 4 because you'll get more bang for the buck by going tier 2.

Hmmmm. My experience with Tier 2 is mostly greens, with the ocasional blue. Maybe I'll give that another shot. Thanks.
