tbf they havnt even said its because of the arkfalls. all they tell us is "the air is not somewhere you want to be right now"

That didn't stop the stratocarrier from "dropping us off." I think its more likely they didn't want to put the time into it right now. It'd be one more thing to test and debug, as well as develop and balance.

Only Large Ships can fly due to the heavy shielding/armor invested in them. They are given harder top points and shielding due to falling debris,which leaves them kind of vulnerable to fire from the bottom.
