No... First, she sounded pretty clear that there could be. Second, the thread's about whether there can be or not.

I suspect there can, for dramatic reasons, no matter how unlikely it is that it would be biologically possible.

The likelihood that two different alien species evolving under different planetary conditions can mate with each other should be minimal, almost zero. Of course, this is the TV world, and the producers don't have an endless budget to hoist the series with more 'alien'-like aliens. So pretty much almost all the Votan races (Gulanee excepted) just happen to be humanoid, down from having two front-facing eyes, two ears, two arms, two legs, 5 digits on each limb, no fur except for the top part of the head and beard growth on the face, walk upright, etc. etc. That is too much coincidence. A likely in-universe explanation for the remarkable similarities (used in several other sci-fi series) is that an omnipotent alien species spread the common ancestor among the stars. If this is true, the chances that interbreeding is possible goes significantly up. The offspring however might or might not be sterile.

To be frank, I'm kind of disappointed by the lack of alien-ness to the aliens in Defiance, but I understand it is a result of budgeting and acting constraints. Video games such as Mass Effect feature more radical aliens (though still roughly humanoid in shape for the most part) because they don't have to deal with costumes and integrating cgi with live-action.

    Concurrent Evolution

it is theoretically probable that most humanoid races may be close enough, genetically, to interbreed. Whether those offspring are viable or not is another matter. So long as they are both carbon-based and have DNA, it may be possible.

I doubt the Defiance races and humans do that. I doubt even the Votan species can interbreed given how different they are.
I am fully aware of the Star Trek Lore, and yes all the Humanoids of the Star Trek Galaxy are related to the Ancient Humanoids.

Actually it's Memory Alpha, possibly the only wiki on the planet you can quote and be sure of accuracy.

Even before Star Trek it was common to have Alien Humans who can breed with Humans, the Barsoom novels from the 1920's which popularized John Carter of Mars had Humanoid Aliens who could breed with humans from Earth, this trope of Sci-Fi has even been done by creditable pure Sci-Fi authors such as Larry Niven which used this concept as the Basis of the Ringworld books.
