NO BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY! Had they of left it alone so it could play PS2 and PS games.. THEN I'd of gotten one. I'll stick with my PC under the tv instead.. with my wireless mouse and keyboard.. kicked back in my Lay-Z-Boy, gaming on my 42" LED TV and enjoying the days and nights with my surround sound blaring at 1100W output of clear and powerful.. LOL, I signed up to Defiance at the first hint of a Tabula Rasa like Game.
I don't care what any review site says, Defiance MMO-FPS-RPG Gameplay & Storyline gives it a solid 9/10.
The "-1" is for lack of bank storage, character customization, equipment crafting, etc.

    ps
I love open hardware systems like x86 Windows & Android.
Closed Hardware systems like iOS, WinRT, PS3, & xBox suffocate me, due to lack of things to do, ie. "content"!

IGN is a very biased game reviewer. If it's not a xbox exclusive they give the game a mediocre score more often than not.

    Personally I think Defiance is a 6.5 ~ 7.0 game.

    * It has a completely crap chat system that is borderline useless.
    * It feels mostly like a single player game most of the time.
    * It's promised episodic content has boiled down to little more than some pursuits each week.
    * It has numerous bugs that make the game 'unfun' such as resetting stats etc.
    * It is highly repetitive.
    * No crafting, no base building, no clan building, no way to 'develop' the world. Essentially once you've done the last mission you are done. After that it's just grinding to finish achievements.
spot on .. right there with you

not greedy.. blame that on the lack of consumers using the original ps3 to it's fullest. Mine has one of the new t2b ssd's in it (about to hit shelves soon) and I still run a version of linux 5.4... yes.. the original one played EVERYTHING, from previous consoles to emulations for atari 2600-n64.. I even played WoW on it before 3.0 released...

the new ps3's removed that function.. as almost nobody was playing old games on it.. and honestly.. sony was selling ~$9,000 in hardware at that time for just a couple hundred bucks... DID you know.. the ps3's that are out today also play ps1 games? (not ps2) .. Sadly.. sony will do like Nintendo and MS did, and put the games back up as digital dl for reduced prices on the PS4... I might have called them greedy for that, if ALL the other platforms weren't already doing it.....

This isn't even outrageous. Anthony pretty much laid out what we all know to be true in his review, and it's not like his score was out of left field either. Players have been saying the same thing here repeatedly since launch. Most reviews coming out this week have been in the same ballpark, and each reviewer has been putting the time in. Honestly, more time than was needed to be quite frank.

The positive take away across the board is that the game is getting nods for being fun despite the litany of problems that can't be ignored. The reality is that there are some real content issues that need to be addressed, and this game can't depend on the tv show to bail it out. Trion can't ignore the simple fact that competing for a users time is fine for now while there isn't any real competition. They came out during a lull thankfully. But where are the numbers going to be when the competition arrives with products that aren't just barely passable?
The major problems with this game aren't going to be fixed with patches. There are some serious design flaws that aren't going to be easy to reverse engineer while they work on show related content. And lets be real, they aren't going to strip this sucker down for an overhaul at this point.

I really hope that they do something drastic here. I enjoy playing Defiance, but I couldn't in good conscience myself convince anyone else to pony up cash for what amounts to the best example of the most incomplete game I've played in years.
5.9 seems about right, for now.

With the game in it's current state and personally not experiencing any of the issues I had at launch, I would give the game a solid 7.5 - 8 /10 It is all I wanted from this game and am eagerly awaiting the DLC.

You obviously don't know Greg Miller or Colin Moriarty if you can say something as ignorant as this.
