To the people saying they agree because the game is mediocre overall, a 5.5 is not a mediocre score. A 7.0 stands as a mediocre score while a 5.5 is squarely in the bad range. This game has plenty of issues, but there's way too much fun to be had in the game, and it's way too unique (on consoles especially) to be called bad. This guy is a joke. Like someone else pointed out, he's the guy who gave Diablo 3 a 9.5 after only playing it on normal mode. That's just laughable.

Defiance is the first game I've ever played where I just don't feel the need to slow down. And considering the number of games I've played so far, that says a lot. Right now I would give it a rating of 6.
I can usually predict a review semi-accuratly from just a gameplay trailer, but this time I was way off, I think IGN has completly lost sight of what is most important in a game, and that is how that game makes you feel, and just how many hours can go by without you noticing.
In otherwords the fun factor.
While other criteria should most definatly factor in, there fun-factor should always be 50%+ of the grade. if not more.
Personally I have not played a mmo that keept me this engaged since eq, and that really sais alot.
wow ps3 version which i play got a 5.2....
The game doesn't really do anything to deserve more than a 6 to be honest.
- The story and voice acting is meh.
- Every quest is meh.
- Graphics are meh.
- Longevity is meh.
+ The ONLY thing Defiance gets right is the shooting mechanics.
Don't get me wrong, everything I said "meh" to, I don't mean any of it sucks, it is just simply... meh. Not bad, not amazing, just average. So to be honest, I don't understand why anyone truly thinks this game deserves more than an average (5-6) score. I agree with IGN.
The only difference is, I am hoping that the game will improve in the future and I'm going to be sticking it out to EGO 5000. (Currently at 2835)

Because game companies will pay for good reviews and then people mass buy only to think wtf have a just bought...due to IGN and other magazine hyp!
Understand the marketing crap and try the game via beta or free trials (rental), than someone being paid to review a game.
Have you not heard of people being asked to go into a shop to buy certain things from music, film's, games etc?
So that the sales get hyped up??

It's another form of advertisement...xxx person sell's xx amount of copies...= must be good to buy..so people then go and buy thinking it's a good thing.

5.9 for Defiance and 8.0 / 9.0 for ****ty games like Halo, Call of Duty, Gears of War, Assassin's creed, same **** every year for fanboys.
Don't dev a new concept of video game dudes, just release a random fps ou tps with a lot of scripts and you'll get your 9.0
Gamespot gave it 6.5. Scores are all right. Defiance right now is a very mediocre MMO.
However, IGN gave it higher scores than Angry Joe. My own score is 5/10.
