When I saw this:
As part of the first paragraph of the article I pretty much discounted anything further he had to say. Skimming the rest of the article it reads like a typical hardcore MMO/shooter player that just doesn't get it what this game is.I didn’t hate the dozens of hours
I'm not worried bout the score, just a shame that IGN has such abusive tendencies towards smaller developers who can't afford the price tag of a quality review.
Yeah.... and are the most unbiased, unbribed, educated heroes of the writing world when they would have given the game a 10/10 !
I rest my case. Truth always hurts. I get it. Deal With it.
I personally think they were generious giving it an almost 6/10.
Sorry, but TRION advertises it as FPS first and MMO second blabla.... it's still an MMO+FPS... thus be prepared to be compared to other MMO's.
And that is what is happening right now.
Even if you compare it to other FPS games. They still blow this game out of the water PVP wise (which is the core part of FPS games. Always have been), as PVP in this game is an utter joke!
Then.... when you start comparing it to other MMO's..... don't let me even get started. /shrug
IGN is no different than any other gamesite out there. Sorry, but they were spot on with this game!
And the Whole crap about how they gave COD a 9/10. It's an FPS multiplayergame! And the Multiplayer PVP part is amazing! Just like it is in Battlefield! And that's where those reviews are based on.
IGN is known (as are many other sites) for overscoring ANY game! And as they did With DEFIANCE as well.... IGN just keeps up their fine tradition.
My biggest issue is that the game is in a way comparable to Skyrim, and yet Skyrim was a game of the year and Defiance gets crapped on. Somehow, Skyrims bugs are "endearing" but Defiance bugs cause utter hatred... I mean, I suppose in Skyrim in general you can save and reload if a bug cripples your save file... but not always. Skyrim's repetitive dungeons, reused environments, lazy encounter designs are somehow acceptable, but if Defiance reuses environment pieces or boss encounters, somehow that's some mortal sin? Main quest line of Skyrim was lazy as hell, and the civil war was an utter joke, much like the Defiance side missions (The main questline of Defiance was actually pretty solid, blew most of the story content of Skyrim out of the water IMO). Really, the only thing the game had over defiance was that going after all of the dragon shouts was addicting, but when that was done, I stopped playing the game completely. Skyrim and Defiance both have the problem of "what do you do with your powerful loot", but people say "Skyrim isn't about the end-game, it is about the journey", but somehow that isn't applicable to Defiance.
Pretty hypocritical. Does this game have its issues? Hell yes. Many of them. But does the game really deserve a 6, when Skyrim was getting 10s? That's why numeral scores are a joke in my opinion. You can't sum everything up and say "That's how good it is". I prefer to read the words of the reviews, although I'll admit sometimes I've checked metacritic to get the jist of people's opinions if I've read the reviews and watched some gameplay videos but I'm not sure whether I'd like to get on board.
In my opinion, I'm enjoying the game. I wouldn't recommend the game for everyone at all - I told my dad not to get the game because if you don't like shooter combat, you won't like the game, but I've recommended it to co-workers who were into sci-fi shooters, and many of them enjoy the game now.
