Yes it in fact is, because his opinion is backed by a for profit company in a paid position with leverage in the market... a bad review from a large review site could easily kill a games sales either indefinitely or temporarily. So the reviews should be thorough and if a bad review is given it should be justified. This guy spent like 24hrs or less in the game and wrote it off as crap, which is completely and utterly unfair for an MMO. It's like he's never rated an MMO before. 24hr review for a game like Bioshock Infinite would be fine for example, because it is only around 8hrs of actual gameplay.. an MMO though is significantly more and drawn out across a larger time span.
For the above reasons I don't trust reviews. I buy and make my own opinion or play a demo if one is available. Luckily I got in last beta wave and considered it my demo as it was so close to release and was very pleased with the results so I bought everything (season pass, preorder, and deluxe edition).
not at all
Less about Defiance & more about bashing IGN for the sake of IGN being IGN. Looking at their God Hand review - 3/10. Yeah, whatever. Truthfully, I don't really care about reading/watching reviews aside for having a giggle or two. Most of the time, I decide from my own experience by playing the game (alpha, beta, demo & etc) or even easier by watching gameplay, LP & walkthrough videos & rarely insights from someone who is highly knowledgeable about gaming development, not from someone who can write an essay & make puns. Let my own eyes or experience to judge if I like the game or not. My own 2 cents & has little to do with the topic.
For Trion's own sake, I really wish that this review or whatever reviews that may come afterwards will signify Trion that if they think some things are good enough, may not cut out to be good enough after all. While this may sound like I'm highly undermining their efforts, aside from fixing they really need to focus on improving the core instead of tweaking here & there in the game's subsequent patches & blow our minds in the process or they should at least try to. They at least got the basis for something that could be good. Make it firm & then build upon it. Good luck to Trion.
