I agree with most of that review (Xbox version got a 5.5 from IGN - though, IGN has not been credible in quite some time).

    I agree on these points:
    • no traditional classes so there’s really no reason to ever make more than one character
    • side quests range from mediocre to awful
    • Dungeons are good (co-op) and well designed. "...feels like the dungeons were designed by a totally different team"
    • disappointed by how little Defiance the MMO intersects with Defiance the show

But I don't agree one bit on the reviewer's statement on the enemy AI being "terrible". I think the AI in this game is great for the most part. Most of the time the enemies seem to be aware of where you are and what you are doing. Granted, some of them foolishly run towards you with the their guns blazing, but some also hide, cover, and flank really well.

I have the season pass preordered and enjoy the game, but it's already beginning to feel a bit stale to me. I'm hopeful that changes.

    Just my thoughts.

Trion could never explicitly say the DLC packs are done too creating a game that never ends. So by designing a game that is by definition never really complete, Trion could create a property that can't be judged in the same way a game is traditionally reviewed. That is ground breaking stuff there.

this is one reason why i've stopped rushing to judgement of any online property. at some point i always revisit it, and my opinion changes.

the first dlc of this game was supposed to be out within the first month. i honestly consider that pretty damned close to day one dlc and consider it part of the complete launch day(month) game. i don't honestly care if you don't agree with my opinion on this matter.
Defiance released with all the basic features of a MMO shooter. Once you release the game it is will be rated and reviewed. If one has to wait for a complete MMO, then no one will ever be able to do it. MMOS are never complete because they are ongoing process.

Defiance will still be the same game in years to come with added content. That is why there is CB phase and OB phase to take all the feedback seriously so that once the game is out it is not a mess because customers don't give a damn about those things once they shell money out of their pockets.

I'm glad someone else saw it this way too! Haha. He's quite lame imo.

Med rescue is after 3 groups of mercs you rescue yeah? I broke line of sight when I saw lasers and reengaged when the situation was favorable to me.

The voice chatter thing is general sniper advice for situations where you can't pick them off from safety. There is so much cover you can use to break line of sight, I've literally never been 2 shot by them on an out door mission.

When I do emergencies I usually just trigger the event and stay in vehicle or get back in, snipers die pretty fast on my bumper.

    Nothing facetious at all.

a score of 6 seems perfectly reasonable at this point. The game is fun but average at best and i'd give it 6/10 too. I'm sure it will improve in time but it really doesn't deserve any higher. Personally I hate the way most games are given 8-10/10 scores these days. Lazy game "journalists" have helped to create an attitude amongst younger gamers that anything less than an 8 means a game is garbage. This is completely ridiculous. There are very few games that actually deserve even an 8/10 score. I put gaming "journalism" at the same level as Star Wars fan fiction. It's almost impossible to find any reviewer who can actually critique a game.

It's fine. You're struggling with snipers, others aren't. The reviewer is one of the ones who obviously isn't also. I suppose on top of wanting to accuse him of writing an unfavorable review because he wasn't bribed to write a favorable one, you'll want to accuse him of using 3rd part apps to cheat as well. Well, this is going nowhere fast.

Metacritic user reviews... 7.5... Which is fair. Still a lot of patching and wor kto be done. I don't think I've played an MMO that I would rate higher than an 8 the month of Launch. Lot's of hiccups, but fun games!

Yeah the lack of character classes is weird, although I do kind of like the fact that things are pretty easy to respec. In theory, having a second character would make it easier to build out different EGO trees, though. I just haven't been that tempted to try decoy yet...

Agree on the AI. It's a bit on the simple side, but the different scripts for the different enemies work fairly well. And for an MO it's at least average.

I'd give it around a 6/10 as well.

It's slightly above average in it's current form.
