end game defiance is nothing like the tutorial. dark matter are nothing like the mutants and skitterlings in the tutorial.
Where in the world are you getting the impression that he did not do the things you're talking about? I saw all the things you're listing showcased in his video. You just choose to believe he stayed in the tutorial and went no further. Give it a rest and come back to reality. You hate the review, we get it. But stop making junk up.

And what is with the people who keep pointing towards Dark Matter as some end-all be-all of difficulty? They're stupid simple to kill.

At least 3 major arkfalls, 5 PVP matches, and 2 co-ops every day. Then I do a few contracts and advance the story some.
Decide not to do? Really? I did enough arkfalls to feel unexcited at the prospect of more of them. I've long since exhausted the story. I was done with the co ops in 1-2 trips. After that they're about as interesting as driving over to mine 99 and shooting the guys standing around there.

I think this whole problem can be summed up in a very simple word.. EXPECTATIONS.

People see MMO, and forget exactly what it stands for, and instead they EXPECT certain things in ANY MMO, regardless of the TYPE of MMO. People who'd actually gotten out of their little gear grinding shells KNOW that it's not the MMO that matters in the title, it's the three letters behind it.

You come into ANY game expecting it to be like the mass marketed grind fests out there, and it doesn't have that giant "ROAR! END GAME!" that your expecting from the RPG styled games, and your not going to be happy. Doesn't matter if your some hack wanna-be gamer-critic at IGN or elsewhere.. your still not going to be happy, and thus rate it badly.

Pity.. that all these people.. both critics and gamers alike.. are *SUPPOSED* to be intelligent sentient beings but have an utter fail when it comes to deciphering 6 letters mashed together for a classification system. *SMH*

You are still missing the point. Nobody is comparing the two games. If I told you three movies were great when in fact they were all horrible, would you trust my next movie review?

OK, first to respond on topic. I usually don't care about the reviews a game received. I look for things like story line, originality, basically a "hook" that I enjoy. To be honest and fair, I got invited to one of the betas for this game and after a few hours just shut it down and logged out thinking the game was crap. Then I found myself bored out of my mind, looking for a new game (it's really my hobby at this point), and really looked at this game taking both my experience into account, what the devs are intending the game to be, and what it's actually becoming. I figured what the hell, no sub fee, one time purchase, and there really isn't another game like this on the market right now (unless I go fps, and I suck at those). It's all ME3's fault, actually, but that's another tangent for another time.

So, that's what brought me here and to playing it. The more I play the game, the more I like it. There are things that I'd like to add, like a distinction about the archetypes would be nice. Right now, it's simply a matter of cosmetics whether I start as a veteran or outlaw or whatever. Has no real impact, or even slight impact, on the game itself. But, the game is what it is, and if I remember it's about running from here to there, shooting things and having fun doing it (and especially the challenges with the exception of the d*mn chicken one have been a blast).

So, the reviews are going to be what they are. If an MMO centric site reviews the game, low review "scores". If a shooter centric site reviews the game, again low review "scores". Defiance, in a lot of ways, is breaking new ground with this game. Something's that's not been done or attempted before. And most new things are going to not be welcomed for a long time. It also explains the troubles Trion has been having getting things to run smoothly and why there's been almost a constant daily patching going on (as opposed to the weekly that us MMO players have come accustomed to).

Now to the quote from Mivo. While most of what you say I agree with, the one thing I disagree about is the unoriginal side quests. This morning it struck me that there weren't any "go here and kill 30 mobs and come back." It was a revelation that I hadn't seen that cheap ploy being used (something EQ had set up). True, the side missions are go here, get this, drop it off, or go there and rescue those, and maybe they're thinly veiled adaptations of go over there kill 30 and come back, but it's nice to see that there was an attempt to break the "normal?", "traditional?" patterns of side missions.

I'm on the PS3, and everything that he's listed there is factual.

And still it only made a difference by 0.6 in terms of scores. They still gave it an average score. Al though, what is interesting here is that both IGN and Gamespot reviews are hit similar points which led to low scores.

    I agree with IGN's rating.

In so many ways this game feels like it was just thrown together:

-On-going bugs and glitches galore make me feel like I'm playing a beta, not a full game I paid $60 for.

-Co-op missions poorly designed--Most of the time I get joined in a match in the middle so trying to follow the mini-story is pointless and I have to run the entire map just to catch up to the group.

-Unbalanced weapons for PvP--Everyone just runs around with a shotgun.

-Unreasonable bit costs for store items--some outfits cost 880 bits ($10)? That's 15% of the cost of the game itself..for one outfit. Why would I even bother since most of the time I'm looking at a mob of default Human Survivalist clones and by the time their outfits finally load up, either they or I am already gone.

-Uncreative game "culture" (Really? Pig + cow = Pow, $hit + taco = shtaco) and "go find the key" type storyline.

I think the play control they got right, but pretty much everything else is mediocre at best. Someone basically said one day "Hey lets combine Mass Effect 3 with Borderlands and crank out the game in time for the release of the TV show whether it works properly or not. Anyway, I'm just going to try and grind out for the achievements and then dump the game first chance.

Never going to buy a Trion product again and going to encourage friends to do the same.

This +1 x 200 to the 700th power. You should make that your quote.
