That argument wouldn't make sense anyway. Tomb Raider was an adventure game and it rewarded you for solving puzzles. Heck, DOOM rewarded you for solving puzzles. What TSW, GW2, and Rift have done is kind of new for MMORPG's, at least in my experience.

I hate the data recorder idea. I guess they're supposed to encourage exploring, but they're more like a backyard easter egg hunt rather than a trip into the jungle. They're tedious and uninteresting. Get yourself a new mechanic.

I agree, but then again, if you are reductive about everything, you will find everything is borring. I will let you in on a great programing secret, A game is just a loop that ends when the player quits, wins or loses. Ether way, you are always doing the same thing over and over. The key is to make it intresting. In tetris all you are doing is fliping blocks left and right, but the dynamics of the level change. This makes every game intresting, and new.

In borderlands holding E for 10 seconds, will lead to new and fun dialog and situations, killing is often wraped in a unique scenario or reason. Sometimes you just stand there listing to a yellow robot talk for half an hour because it has funny things to say and you want to hear more.

In Defiance it does nothing to separate one encounter from another. Logically, I know they are different. But the part of my brain that matters, the part of my brain that is playing the game, the part of my brain that gets fulfillment from playing games, can tell that this is just a copy past job.
Telling someone how they can improve is 200% more helpful then telling someone that they need to improve.

If people feel compelled to be completionists and get all the data recorders, and get them NOW, then that is on you...

You know, you don't have to complete every single pursuit, immediately, like right now...you do realize that stuff like the pursuits are just achievements you can get over time while playing. Sort of like "oh wow, I killed 1000 raiders with my LMG..cool". If you're going to go chasing every single thing like this down in the game, then don't complain if somethings 'too hard', or 'takes too long'. And most of all, don't complain when you run through it all and find yourself needing to come and complain about how there is no content and nothing to do.

I mean, you're free to do so if you wish, but why should it be the problem of the devs if you don't like some of them? I enjoy the lore in them, but I don't go looking for them. I hate the races, but some people like them. I don't do them much at all. But I'm not going on here whining to have them removed or changed or whatever simply because I'm not good at them or not interested in them.

The utter lack of reading comprehension in some of these posts is ridiculous. Guys, the OP isn't saying that data recorders should be removed from the game, he's saying that data recorders should be removed from exploration pursuits. So please stop saying "I like data recorders! Don't remove them!"

I don't agree with him, but at least I understand what he's saying. As Ensu said, you actually have to explore the hidden nooks and crannies of the game world to find some of the recorders, and if that doesn't qualify them as being part of exploration pursuits I don't know what does.

why, I think searching for data recorders is fun and gives an extra activity

and besides, lets say you dont like searching, then there are tons of videos and guides out there that will lead you right to them. For example:

    Defiance: All Data Recorder Locations

so I dont see any problems

I get Assassin's Creed 2 feather flashbacks. I have serious OCD and find myself forced to find them all if I start :/
