Dear, +Defiance +Trion Worlds .. An open letter of sorts.
I wrote to you yesterday asking for help. After spending 6 and a half hours locked in a solo mission.

This is what I wrote.

"Hello, I am writing to ask for help in game. I do not know how to reach the correct people about this and would appreciate assistance to get this to the right people.

I am a disabled gamer. The way I play is with an upside-down pencil in my right hand (this pencil hits the WASD and other buttons on the keyboard that are needed to move in Defiance) In my left hand there is a small laptop mouse (I only have two working fingers on that hand so no fancy mouse for me)
I have been a gamer since I was 7 years and and have always played this way. I have come across the first mission ever that I cannot complete because of my disability. It is the Main Mission "A Bullet For A Bad Man"
Because of the way my hands are I am not able to go fast enough to get behind the flamer guys so that I can shoot them in their packs and they'll run in to the hole.

I tried for 6 hours on this mission before writing this ticket. This brought me to tears because I feel very disappointed in myself, and I shouldn't.

Please, I hope there is a way I can get help with this mission as it is a main mission and I cannot progress any further. I love Defiance and I would be a very sad girl if I had to stop playing because of this one solo mission.

I'm very sorry to hear about the issues you've experienced when playing the "A Bullet for a Bad Man" quest! I understand how frustrating that must be, and really hope I can provide some clarification on the situation.

Without a doubt, I understand that this mission is of high difficulty. It took me quite a few attempts to beat it myself. With that being said, we will be unable to grant you completion for this mission if you are unable to complete it.

The reason for that is this: while I sincerely understand your situation, we can not grant mission completion for individuals to ensure fairness. The game maintains the same difficulty for everyone, and if we grant specific request for completion we will then need to grant them all in the interest of fairness. I cannot stress enough that we do understand your situation, and I hope you understand our reasoning behind this decision. I sincerely hope you are able to complete this mission and advance, as we absolutely love having you in the game.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to let us know. Thank you for your continued support of Trion Worlds and for playing Defiance.

My Conclusion
Please, take the time to read your letters before you auto reply. I am Not asking you for in game money, in game reputation points, or Ego points. I am simply asking for help. And It was very difficult to even do that, because I was taught that I can do anything you can do. So on top of feeling ashamed that I had to ask for help, I feel disregarded. You tell me that "In fairness, you can do nothing", I Challenge you!

Take some duct-tape tape and tape up your left hand and fingers straight and put your mouse in it. Then, tape up your right hand into a fist and stick a pencil in it. Now, do this quest, in fairness, and tell me how it went for you.

I would like to give some advice that could hopefully help you with the mission in question, though I am unsure if it will be enough to get your trough it, as you correctly point out, it can be a difficult mission.

Alot of us have found that the easiest way to get access to the fueltanks on the back of the flamers is to hit them with melee, this basicly makes them turn around for a decent amount of time, allowing you to get a easier shot at the fuel tank.

Hopefully this advice will be enough to help you trough the mission, if not I wish to say best of luck on getting a proper reply from trion on this mather.

solo instances in mmo's are stupid enough even when they're trival ******** like in funcom games.

one of the fundamentals of mmo's is that if a challenge is too tough to do alone, you can make friends to help you with those challenges. and for a very long time, that has been a driving force in social dynamics of mmo's, wether in pve or pvp.

it doesn't matter wether you're disabled or not, you have every right andexpectation that in an mmo if you meet a challenge you can not overcome by yourself, that you can and should call upon others to help with it.

it's something that so utterly intrinsic in mmo's that some devs along the way decided should be removed in particular instances.


if i want to be forced to do thigns solo, i can play any number of single player games that have no option to coop. having the option to solo things is fine by me, but not being forced to be alone.


it's trite and crass to do this as an mmo dev.

OP i FULLY understand .

For this particular mission...use flashbang grenades on the little flamers. They will go boom and run off.

Of course will take sometime due to timer but i did this along with a shotgun with electric on it.During grenade timer i hit flamers with shotgun and sometimes it shorted them out causing fire also.Hope this might help

i can see you have barely touched this game because you are unaware that there are at least 3 solo instances currently in game, including the encounter OP is having dificulty with.


that means ofc, if it's not plainly obv, that he cannot simply get help from friends to complete the encounter.


while perhaps banging one's head on the encounter for 6 hours straight may not be the best answer for any gamer, it is the norm for the wow clone raider demographic who consider it the peak of mmo gameplay and the only thing an mmo needs to do well. so much so that wildstar is banking on this demographic heavily with their current hype engine, and gw2 pissed of the majority of their fans to cater to without pursuing their original intentions.

the best way to sole the problem of the smelters is to use a flash grenade, I can never shoot the either. If you use a flash grenade you not only spark them but you stun the others, or if you want use a pyro grenade.

I really don't think that the response that you got was an auto letter, I have gotten those myself and they sound a lot diff. The one you got just speaks in general terms so as not to offend you, so that they can not have anything held against them.
