What is up with San Francisco?

Okay, the majority of the game map is a terraformed Bay area which includes many vibrant exotic plants, trees, etc but when you get to San Francisco, it's a complete wasteland. It literally looks like a nuclear bomb went off along with the terraforming from the arkfall. When I first got there I was thinking holy shtako and I realized the map wasn't grayed out because you couldn't access it(as I originally thought before I went there)it was grayed out cause it IS all gray there. I was almost expecting to see Mad Max riding around there. It seriously looks so post-apocalyptic...

I think it's to reflect the inhabitants. Everything before you reach that area is purely biological (Raiders, Biomen, and Hellbugs). The further south you go, you start seeing more mechanical (Scrappers, 99ers, and Dark Matter). The Mechanicals do not need all the vegetation.

I personally wish it was all like the downtown portion of San Fran.

When I finally got there my first thought was "Oh look, more of the same. Except they changed the color..."
