Why is no one using chat

i would find that disturbing as well. i personally got a kick out of listening to someones wife chewing them out about being a lazy pos and then proceeded to go on about why she's never in the mood. but yea game definately needs a push to talk button

lol, Yah, I would like to see the following chat options:

-Worldwide
-Zone (Mount Tam, Madera Etc.)
-Clan
-Group
-Area

Push-to-Talk = Default
Chat Box = Permanently Visible Or Temporarily Visible Options
Temporarily Visible Option = Option to enable a messanger style beeping sound if something is said

Edit: On PC I would like a UI refresh with option to "unlock mouse" and click on people around you and click inspect etc, instead of quick menu inspect, also game needs more "dance" options.. how can I look like a rockstar without a rockstar dance

Yep chat is still majorly sub standard, I personally don't like voice chat it just becomes annoying and the total half baked effort that is the chat box just means its really not worth using. I still hope this will get a major overhaul soon because I think it could eventually cause people to leave the PC version at least if its not fixed because like many have said before the game feels like a single player most the time.

chat seems a bit useless.. sure it has a function, and it works, but it's kinda tedious having to jump around in menus everytime someone wants to chat.. completely kills the gameflow.. and if you don't use a keyboard, it's even more tedious.

also think that using both left and right to bring up the menus on a 360 controller is poorly thought trough, either left or right would have been enough to show all alternatives, and then you would have one button free to easily and quickly swap loadouts, if they ever sort all that out...... or one extra button free to be used for some other function.

That's it. No one uses it. It's crazy. I don't feel like I'm in an MMO. I feel like I'm in a single player game and occasionally some guy, who could just as well be an NPC, comes to do the same quest as me.

I chatted once, had a kid, and vowed to never chat again.

The UI for chat is terrible. the box vanishes after a few seconds. Worse thing is though. AREA chat is really just /say in most mmos. Theres very little radius so people have to be beside you to hear you .

Waste of time and done because of consoles and assumption everyone will HAVE to use VOIP (of course which ingame is crap also)

Using the Chat shortcut key I think, Z? gives a couple of options and one of them is opening up the chat window, but it is right there in your face so you have to stop everything, do your typing and send it and pray no enemies spawn and kill you. I would also like to use key binds for those actions in the quick menu.

Whatever the original key bind for chat was there is a small text box in the lower right you can type in, but as other said the text disappears after a couple of seconds and the area of the chat is very small.
