Don't forget, when he told you to 'grab that shooter' the case containing the crystal was still open. After he drives off and you check the case, it's closed. He palmed it when your back was turned, or had Irisa do it while he was talking to you about the gun.

I'm pretty sure it was Irisa, because right after his statement "This gun saved my life a few times, just like you did. I'd say it's a good fit.", she pops from around the front of the roller and says "We need to go now!", almost as if she's telling him "I've got it, we need to get out of here."

Anybody watch the show, or at least that preview of the first 15 minutes? They used the crystal to jump start the terra-spire inside the arkfall so that they could get at the sphere, and then when Irissa finds out how much it's worth she yells out that they can pay off Varrus (As in, Soleptor?), I assume for the whole fiasco that made up our episode missions.
