In game chat?

So I just started playing on 4/16 and the impression I get thus far is this is more like a single player game with other people running around in the same zone as me. I haven't figured out if zone chat actually works let alone trying to private message someone to see if they want to team up; if teaming up is even possible.

Is there something I am missing or is the starting player zone just solo play?

There is no "zone" chat. There is only area chat and only nearby players will be able to see it... sort of 'realistic' I guess... anyway many people have been asking for a zone chat since launch. Also there's a /whisper in there that works 1/100th when i use it...
