On the EU PC server, I noticed that Shadow Wars pops much less now and in general the game seems to quieten down a little. Getting a coop map also takes longer than it used to, at least in the off hours. This is partly normal, though a bit soon, but the trend of the professional reviews concerns me a little. Having a metascore in the 60s turns off people, because honestly, it would have turned me off too (and I would have missed out on the game).
I quite enjoy Defiance in spite of its flaws (the gunplay/combat is great) and I wonder about its future. I actually think it would work quite well as a F2P, especially due to the show tie-in, with an extended cash store for people who did not buy the game. I imagine it would bring in plenty of new people, steadily, and would probably ensure continued development. It would also address the problem with people possibly not trying out the game because of the reviews. It's easier to like something if you can actually experience it for yourself.
How do you guys feel about a F2P option, with buyers having founder status? Is this even possible on consoles? On the PC, there are some decent games that use that model and it seems to ensure an influx of new people, which I feel is really crucial for the success of the game -- as with any MMO.
