Right now? I'd kind of be table flipping mad. In the future? Not so much. It's kind of become the norm with MMO's.

I hate FTP games as they use micro trans to FORCE you to pay money. If this game went FTP I am sure lock boxes would change to purchase with BITS only and that would suck!

yeah though when that happens they would also have to give players who paid some bonus, like a special outfit and have them gain some free Bits every week or something, that way ppl will be less upset

Guild Wars 2 doesn't do that. The Secret World doesn't do that. EverQuest doesn't do that. As far as I know, Star Wars: The Old Republic doesn't do that.

On the EU PC server, I noticed that Shadow Wars pops much less now and in general the game seems to quieten down a little. Getting a coop map also takes longer than it used to, at least in the off hours. This is partly normal, though a bit soon, but the trend of the professional reviews concerns me a little. Having a metascore in the 60s turns off people, because honestly, it would have turned me off too (and I would have missed out on the game).

I quite enjoy Defiance in spite of its flaws (the gunplay/combat is great) and I wonder about its future. I actually think it would work quite well as a F2P, especially due to the show tie-in, with an extended cash store for people who did not buy the game. I imagine it would bring in plenty of new people, steadily, and would probably ensure continued development. It would also address the problem with people possibly not trying out the game because of the reviews. It's easier to like something if you can actually experience it for yourself.

How do you guys feel about a F2P option, with buyers having founder status? Is this even possible on consoles? On the PC, there are some decent games that use that model and it seems to ensure an influx of new people, which I feel is really crucial for the success of the game -- as with any MMO.

    Your thoughts?
I do the know what scam you fell for, but the game is f2p. How could you possibly think otherwise? Wow.

    Nope. Defiance is not free-to-play. It's buy-to-play.

honestly if they went free to play before the first month was even over i'd be done with defiance/rift and trion entirely. Pick a business model and give it some time to grow.

I doubt they will go F2P anyway as B2P gives them an initial box price plus cash shop.

F2p only after weeks will be crazy.

It is only acceptable if we are credited $60 worth of bits or after atleast a year.

Anyway, f2p will increase the likelihood of pay2win items been introduced into the cash shop since the developers will be more desperate to make money from it more than ever. I can live with that in exchange for a bigger community. But only if the above conditions are met.

Guild wars 2 does everything short of forcing you to get the keys from the shop. don't know about secret world. and for SWTOR i'm fairly sure that you can only buy the "packs".

Guild Wars 2 and The Secret World required you to buy the client before you could play, so they aren't quite "FTP"
Star Wars: The Old Republic was originally a P2P game but they added a FTP system that gimps everything and forces you to pay money for basic features such as access to Battlegrounds, Flashpoints, Crew Skills, Mail, and more than 20 other things. That is, of course, if you aren't paying their $15/month "Gold" subscription.
