The title of this thread suggests that's the OP is saying that single player only games can't be great. If that's your opinion then I respect that, but for me some of the best games I've played have been single player only games.

Is defiance a great game? Sadly no. Ignoring the bugs, this is an average game at best. Personally I feel the game lacks depth and not having a real sense of progression is an issue to me. Lets face it, we'd probably all stick to that one great gun we liked if we weren't forced to change it because we had maxed out its exp. That is not progression!

The menu system is also clunky and inventory management is hellish. When going through my inventory I'm actually interested is knowing what's equipped to all my load outs and not just the currently selected one. Since the game doesn't tell me this then I have to try and remember every piece of equipment I have equipped across my load outs when comparing new gear.

Despite all this I still enjoy the game for what it is, although I fear that I will only keep playing it as there are no other games that interest me coming out any time soon.

Oh and regarding Bioshock Infinite - I'm with the others who say that games a masterpiece. But even that game, like all games, has its flaws.

What's worrisome is the difference in metacritic scores between the two games. Low metacritic scores mean reviewers, by and large, are agreeing Defiance is lacking.
Bioshock is a great game, Defiance is an ok game (I'd say a 6.5/10), but NEVER EVER take Metacritics user score in consideration, low or high, games get trolled and hyped hard by people with multiple accounts. It's even less credible than IGN scores, if that's even possible

Bioshock EXCEEDED at MMO's TOO. Star Wars The Old Republic KILLED World of Warcraft when it released it was so awesome!
Imagine life without swtor... Seriously they just RECENTLY finallllllly polished that game and how much financial backing did they have compared to Trion ??? rofl some of you are clueless as a cuddly puppy barking at a king cobra. Seriously I agree 100% like MOST mmo's in the last 8 years Trion released Defiance WAY TO EARLY but considering how hard they're working I do give them credit that it's possible that in another 2 months or so that the game will be smoothed out and hopefully new content sooner or later in that range will yield some more visits to play. You don't have patience to wait out a FREE to Play than so be it. Your loss...

Bioshock Infinite is polished and it's one hell of a good game.

Meanwhile, Defiance is a mediocre MMO light 3PS that does nothing particularly well and is chalked full of game breaking bugs.

    Rather large difference imo.

Bioshock infinate is GOTY. It's an amazing game with an amazing story. Defiance pushed the envelope on the first no subscription MMO for multi platform but...it is lacking in areas (IMO) but just logging on to play everyday...if the servers allow it...is fun.

Metacritic user scores are garbage, yes. The reviewer scores, however, are a solid idea of what the critics of the industry (love them or hate them) think about a game as a whole. Defiance is sitting at 57/100 on the 360 right now. That's about as lukewarm as it gets.

Agreed. Bioshock Infinite is one of the best games I've played in a long time.

My mind was so blown by it. Replayed it 4 times and loved playing each one and learned something new every time. Also got full completion for it xP

Ah, I thought you were talking about users score.
