How do I communicate with other people?

Ok, I give up and need help with this. I've finished the story line, working on numerous side quests and have an EGO rating just over 600. But I have no idea how to actually communicate with the other players.

How do I send a tell to another player?

How do I chat with my group?

Are there different chat channels like in MMO's where I can switch to a [trade] channel for selling items?

How do I use the voice chat? I have it on but all I hear are alien voices mumbling or screaming that aren't distinguishable words or phrases and I'm fairly certain no one can understand or hear me. I know my headset works since I use it with Skype and Mumble for other games just fine.

Also how do I add people to my friends list who aren't online at the same exact time I'm doing a search for their name?

Voice chat is being fixed. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Don't know how it is on the pc, but also there are different chat channels that can be accessed via the D-pad (for the consoles). I think this can be overlooked sometimes. Not sure the key's used to filter through on the pc though.

By pressing Z and using the arrow keys/mouse to select the chat channel. Alternatively you can just click the relevant coloured ball by the chat window.
