    Defiance is an "MMO"

That is a work in progress that takes months of patches and updates for the gaming experience to become solid

There is no subscription fee required to access the game so you have no "obligation" to continue playing
though you will be missed we will continue on an persevere cause it gets better

    West of House
You are standing in an open field west of a white house, with a boarded front door.
There is a small mailbox here.
To your left is a dead horse decaying on the ground. Next to the horse is a stick.

    > pick up stick

You are now holding a stick.

    >beat teh horse

I do not understand the command "teh".

    >beat the horse

You are now beating a dead horse with a stick.

I honestly just came in here for a vaguely comical gif of some sort and was not disappointed.

Guild Wars 2 uses the exact same business model (B2P, no subs, cash store). It didn't have any of the issues that Defiance has. Defiance's problem is not the lack of content or some of the bugs, it's the DESIGN that is the problem.

And getting a metascore of around 60 is not typical for MMOs. If every reviewer gives the game a low score, it should be painfully apparent that the problem is not that it's a MMO. Defiance will be F2P before the year is over, and I expect the first 50-75% off sales for the PC version within six weeks or so.

I don't regret the purchase and I like some aspects of the game, but that is precisely why it bugs me that there is so much untapped potential -- and that I see nothing from Trion's side that actually seems to acknowledge that (I don't count vague promises made at marketing events).

Design or lack of QA and a rushed launch?

I assume they couldn't delay the show so they launched as is. I think the design is fine, it seemed to be just a few things here and there that I personally experienced. Then the patch with "fixes" that actually made things worse. They ought to have an open test server since they missed many things in their "test" environment.

    Completely untrue.
GW2 was broken to pieces when it launched. In fact when I was last playing a month ago several of the dungeons that had been broken since day one were still broken (Arah is the first one that comes to mind). Yes, it got better over the course of several weeks but already Defiance has been doing much the same. That's the nature of MMOs; there will be bugs when you launch but try to fix them as quickly as possible.

As for the metascore; the review sites that specialize in MMOs always state that it is foolish to rate an MMO for the first month it is released. There will be startup issues, it takes time for communities to build, and no one releases all of the content up front. Sadly, Defiance is being rated as a shooter more than an MMO, resulting in much lower scores. Hopefully the community that does love this game (like myself and several friends) keep the world seeing the reality of the product.

Gw2 was not broken to pieces, there may have been some issues, but nothing like what i am reading about like this game, I play Rift, trion had a smooth launch with that game, dont be stupid and act like every mmo, has to run like crap at launch. This game has core problems, thats different than the usual launch issues you get with other games.
