I still can't believe you are "forced" to stand and sing and all that for pledge of alligence in school! That shocked me that that was even a thing and if you refused you got punished. Over in north Korea we call that "Indoctrination"
I'll make it clear I'm not a patriot. I hate my own country just as much as USA but as I hear myself thinking "At least I don't live in the USA!" a lot of the time. All that patriotism and your adverts and TV and music and consumerism! I as a slightly cynical but other than that average person DO NOT support terrorism or school shootings but I understand.

Actually, I was never in Iraq. My unit was supposed to go there in 2005, but I got medically discharged before they went over there. I mainly joined the Army because of 9/11 because it hit me hard doubly because I was born in Washington, DC and grew up in New York just outside of New York City. My family had a history of Military service other than my grandfather, my dad was in the Army for about 3 years in the late 60's as a Army journalist and my grandfather on my mother's side was in the Air Force and had also fought in World War II. My older brother never served(hell, my dad sent him to Military School when he was 13 years old and he ran away after being there for only 3 days)and at the time my life was basically heading nowhere so I felt like I had to do something and I wanted to make my family proud by serving.

Actually if you have a religious belief you don't have to sing that song to a flag deity. Though it's not different than any other country. Anyway this has gone WAY off topic.
Well anyway 1 suspect was killed and other is in custody
