I noticed a TON of people discrediting the review based on his style, or other things he's reviewed, with ad hominem arguments running rampant and straw man's on the loose. So anyway, I present to you a culmination of reviews from different sites, and some of them fairly well respected such as Ten Ton Hammer, Gamespot, PC Gamer, Electronic Gaming Monthly, Xbox magazine, etc etc. I'm sure people will take shots at some of those sites as well to discredit those reviews, but taken as a whole, kind of hard to deny Defiance didn't exactly blow the gaming community out of the water. And before people pull the "metacritic is crap" card - know that these links aren't to user reviews where you get the ridiculous 0's and 10's all over the place. It's just a list to a multitude of professional reviews.

You have a good point. Really anyone can give a game any score they want, a lot of it is going to be personal preference. I feel the game gives me enough to have fun and keep me striving for more, like the goals and such. Seems intresting enough to hold my attention for some time and a fun feeling of aiming and killing bad guys. Although, not sure how long that feeling will hang on as the game starts to become redundant! A serious issue in most mmos. Once the game starts to feel like im doing the same thing over and over again and it gets old, the game starts feeling like work instead of like fun, and you start to lose intrest very quickly at that point. Then you find another game to play and this game just goes to the wayside.
It feels like a game I would have played back in the 90s like its really old tech, maybe its because they are trying to please the consoles and the pc alike. I feel like this does not work well. Then again I have played PC all my life since the first pcs were out, and dont have any desire for console. So if a game is not made well for a PC, I usually know it very soon, meaning the PC port stinks and the games sucks as well, because it just dont play right, and the controls are clunky. This could be a great game if they could add more content, fix all the bad bugs, and I mean serious bad bugs, that should not be in any game, weapons disapear, leveling problems, inventory issues, and on and on!!! these things should have been fixed before the game was even launched.
I gave them a 6 and think thats pretty good. If the game came out polished and really playable without all the hassel, like connection problems and lag. With a bit more content to start this game could have easily been a 8.5 to 9. I still give it time to see how they work to fix all the issues. hope it works out for all of you!

Obviously, on this forum it's only ok and rational to disagree with a review, if the review says a game is good.

You aren't allowed to disagree with negative reviews and opinions here.

Personally, my experience playing the game leads to me to give the game a 7.

Fun, but flawed, with many issues that need to be corrected sooner rather than later.

but naturally, I'll be labeled a mindless fanboy because I said 7, and not -2 or -3. because only terrible scores and reviews are rational and honest.

Trion felt that Defiance the game was in a state that it was fair to sell to me for $60, therefor I think it's perfectly fair to review the game as it was on day one.

Not sure I agree to your statement. Yes you could review certain aspects of the game on the first day, but any good involved mmo, I think should take at least a week or more to play and feel the game before you could make a more informative review.

Agree. You can beta test a game all you want, but once its released you are going to run into issues that weren't in the beta. That happens with every mmo ever released. You can tell by the review that he isn't experienced in MMOs, otherwise he would know that there are always bugs at released and are patched asap. Though some of his issues may be on his end and not trions.

Six months? Are you for real?

Half the good content in this game will be gone in six months. Don't ya know they are removing it every couple of weeks to keep up with the show?

I'll say this again for those of you that are slow, if the game is in good enough condition to start removing content week in and week out, it's in good enough condition to review.

People need to just accept the fact that in it's current state Defiance is just a mediocre game...end of story. Some of you just have a higher tolerance for ******** than the rest of us, that doesn't make the game better. Enough with the MMO defense, most MMOs these days ship in much better shape so that line of crap doesn't hold water any more.

Defiance could be great, but it isn't, and at this rate there's no reason to believe it will ever be, unless you are a fanboy.

Did you even look at the Metacritic link? The vast majority of the reviews didn't come out until a week after the game was released, many of them waited two weeks.

This is where someone will come in and say they should have waited three weeks, etc.

Sorry, I thought it went without saying that by reviewing it on day one I wasn't saying you should only play the game for a few minutes. The game didn't get it's first major patch until after a week or so, so by day 1 I meant the condition it was in, which extended for the first 2 or so weeks + more for other issues.

Please name some MMO that have been released perfectly, without issues. Just name one. I have played so many mmo at release and they have all been this way, not one of them ever launched without any bugs.
