habitability is relative, as a different life form may need a different "air" to breath.. a different type of vegetation to supply nurtrients. With potential life supporting planets being several hundred million light years apart, a people barely hanging on the cusp of life may have no choice, and push come to shove, one race will chose themselves over the other...

this partial teraforming that happened may explain the utter lack of wildlife in game (other than not enough time in development). such a drastic change to climates, currents, salinity, and em properties would give almost none of the current wildlife on Earth the chance to evolve. The creatures remaining are either not as dependent on as many of these factors or have been forcibly mutated.

not only would people, billions of people, be dead now from the geological changes directly, but from the impact on all our flora and fauna...

    Pretty darn accurate answer.

The plan was to terraform the planet purely for comfort - it was inhabitable, but strange and alien to them. They had the resources, so they were just going to make it look like their own planet(s). When they got here and found us (we weren't here when they first observed the planet and identified it as a candidate), they immediately halted their plans, and decided to live among us on the planet as-is. We said "nuh-uh!" and started the war. During the war, the arks exploded and the terraforming machinery was set off on accident.

Nim wants to finish the job because he hates humans - fully terraforming the planet would destroy all life on the surface in the process, and wipe humanity out.

Several Hundred Million Light Years? The Votans came from under 5,000 LY away. The distances you're suggesting are in another Galaxy Cluster. Surely there are habitable worlds closer, and if not, they are inobservable from here. Our entire GALAXY is ~100,000 LY across.

Personally I reconcile the lore of all Votans being humanoid by invoking Panspermia.

has to be, since there is the possibility for an irathient/human cross-breed - episode 1 said "she looks pureblood", inferring that there are a few hybrid models :P
Your Challenger won't drive? You're probably in the passenger seat.
Can't sell/delete an item? Check all of your loadouts, it's likely still equipped.
Auction house? Why? It'll just render bits purchased lock boxes pointless, and weapons are mostly equal anyway.
Gear/enemy progression? No thanks, it'll only render 90% of the content trivial when you reach the highest zone.

I did consider that Indogene tech could possibly allow gene therapy to combine traits of the two into a new being. Since they were the most intelligent, advanced species we know of, and they lived in a culture containing multiple distinct sentient species, they would likely have been able to create hybrids. Terraforming technology is by necessity more complex.
