Trion is advertised as a persistent open world shooter (aka MMO Shooter). So dont really see where youre going with this.
It is not advertised as an RPG or TPS/RPG hybrid. Players themselves have been making that comparison due to certain mechanics / features, although often those things really have no bearing on being RPG or not. But it has "levels"! So does CoD. Doesnt make it an RPG. Most often though the comparison is made because people mistakenly equate MMO to being RPG.
I don't think you get it... when it comes down to it, it's all opinion even in the broken down score like you suggested. Graphics... there is no standard of what gets a 10 9 8 7 or the like. Vison or Concept catagories? What does 8 mean and how can prove objectively that one game needs to have an 8 instead of a 9 or 7 or even 5? You can't, it's all opinions. That's my point with the obviously silly hunger and itch numbers I used...
That said I value reviews like Angry Joe's more than somebody who just spews forth a bunch of numbers they pulled out of their *** in order to support whatever final rating they want the game to have. At least with somebodies opinions I get why for example AJ didn't like the controls of Defiance... I get what he means when he says the gun play is really really solid. When he describes how badly the chat system is set up for an MMO that's something that I can relate to having played a bunch of MMOs. These are all concepts I can relate to and even if I disagree with his opinion on each point I can get where he's coming from much better than if he felt the need to slap a "3" for MMO chat interface score on the broken mmo chat system.
TLDR: All reviews are opinions and putting stupid numbers to justify your opinion doesn't make them any less of an opinion.
To the OP,
I just had to sign in to reply, THANK YOU! You've basically summed up what I was thinking, what I wanted to post (time is limited due to the kiddos).
Many are trying to compare this game to others that it isn't. There aren't many (none that I can think of) games that do what Defiance does. Not saying that it hits highs on all points right now, but it does blend well considering how new it is. Also noting Trions track record for updating, content patches, and add on content, things do looking promising but only time will tell.
Thanks again.
