Seems to be Little or no Community

I have a problem with this game is i can't seem to chat in guild chat or whatever its called, i can see people logging in etc,
NO ONE talks in the game on general either if you say anything on there and it's to hard to play some missions alone sometimes as things take loads to kill and they kill you so fast.
It just feels like there's no community and everyone thinks their a lone wolf on the PS3.
I think there needs to be area voice chat so you don't have to stop and type every 2 minutes,
which is why i'm sure there's not many replying to area chat stuff because they can't be bothered to type or can't see the orange writing on a mostly brown ground.
Still wish i got it on the PC not ps3 now there would have been a better community on there and not people playing like a single player game mentality, this has burned me for future console mmo releases especially destiny

Still i haven't played for a week due to being on holiday maybe its changed a bit.

I think the chat is still bugged. In instances I sometimes see someone type something, an answer to a question no-one asked. Then when I look at the full screen chat log, there's been a whole conversation I've missed.

Headset chat seems to be on the increase. I've gone from hearing no one to the slight murmurs of a far off distant voice... no idea if anyone can hear me. Not had a response yet!

there are too many problems with the area chat for anyone to name just one but id say the biggest ones are Trion's criminally loose definition of "area" (doesnt appear to be more than a couple dozen meters if that) and that the messages are easily missed with no alert and a short display time

It's annoying because i like the game, it's just to hard to play alone and hard to talk it's got flaws but every mmo does at the beginning if wow didn't have no major competition in their early days i bet they would have died due to some bad bugs.
Still just wish it was a bit easier to get in with people like it is on pc mmo's

It's called grouping :P I have no trouble hearing others in my group (and used to hear others in clan chat until recently), though I'm not sure if voice chat comes through area chat or not.

I'd say a good fix is to post on the forums, get some friends, and then play with them. The chat is so weird there really isn't another way.
I personally help people whenever I run across them doing a side mission or whatever and just leave after we're done. Give em a cheer emote and I'm on my way.

I play Battlefield 3 and Red Dead Redemption often as well.

Good advice. In these early days where fixes are (or should be) coming fast and furious and refinements to game-play elements like in-game communication are being made, just keep working. While playing in (for some) a communication blackout is uncomfortable (and for PC MMO folks, it's right near impossible!), I'm sure they're getting it sorted for us PS3 folk.
I for one haven't found a PS3 game that has aspired to operating in a full MMO way as yet, so if the mechanics behind Defiance can iron out a communication system that works (no global mic please! A group chat, a guild chat, and proximity would be just fine) then I think we'll be well on our way.

Join a clan, a real one.
    Problem solved.
I haven't played this game in a group less than 3 since it came out.

This is not only with the ps3 version, it's even worse on pc, nobody talks with the mic or in the chatbox and you can't find a single match in shadow war.
The population is fine, this is just not a social mmotps.

I'm pretty sure a lot of guys talks on the xbox 360 version because, you know, xbox 360 players live, eat, pee, sleep with their headset.
